Chjeck out this video: wildly different cars, winged, non wing, even rear engines, FULL inversion!
I never got to see these beasts back in the day,but in the 1960s I saw the coupes on dirt (jalopies, sportsmen, modifieds) all home built & full inversion, by points

Just throwing this out there, but the parity with today's cars is FFFFFFFFFFFFFAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR greater then "the good ole days" and even say 30 years ago (or 20 years ago). Cars are so equal today. Full inversions would "punish" those that qualify well. Not saying any inversion is bad, but full inversions, yeah way too much parity to penalize a guy because he qualifies well.

Non-wing racing is many, many times better these days, especially on the smaller tracks, passing in the Heats that are Inverted, what a novel idea, inverting the cars....You will see examples of this over the next two weeks on preliminary nights, the best winged racing all year usually....

Nickrules. Again I will say. Watch the big block mods from the NE region. Those guys have inverts all the time and they have a very loyal following of owners/cars and fans. They run the big blocks and 358's and Grandview was/is a place to watch someone come from the back. I'm not sure if Glenn Donnelly still has control up there but they use good common sense and have the cars and fans to prove it.

Winged sprints are so equal and locked down I just can't find them interesting or entertaining much more especially on the big half miles. Heck even on the 3/8 miles they play follow the leader. These days I would rather spend my money watching wingless midgets and sprints. Has anyone noticed how tight USAC national midget point battle is. If I was limited to only watching one type of racing event it would be wingless midgets.

Winged sprints being equal does not always equate to boring, follow the leader racing. It may in the 410 or 360 class, but not in the Racesaver class where cars are purposely made to be equal thanks to the strict rules.
Come out to the Racesaver IMCA Sprint Nationals from September 1st through the 3rd and you will see more exciting racing than at 5 of the locked-down, no passing contests that are being talked about on this thread.
I am lucky enough to work at one of the best tracks
anywhere.
