He drove a car provided by Jared Zimbardi who normally races 360's with ESS/URC.

What makes you think these guys would show up anyway? Website is advertising Sammy. If Larson, etc. was coming , they'd probably make a big deal of it...
1 1/2 hr. drive for me, I'm going, new track for me (I'll never catch up to these 200+ track guys, but might as well try, I'm at about 30)

A pleasant surprise was that Smoke showed up to race. Timed 2nd to Sammy, but his engine wouldn't start for feature...
My first vist there, nice facility, (they even had individual seats in main grandstand) perfect weather, & my guy Sammy timed fastest, pulled #1 position for dash, ran away & hid in the Feature
Unfortunately, it was mostly huggy bottom follow the leader. Only real excitement was when Caleb Hlms passed Sammy in lap 22, but it was immediately negated by yellow flag
5/8 mile, not a whole lot of banking, not the ideal setup for intense competition. They mostly run modifieds, etc.

His car last nite looked like the fastest out there, but it was probably the driver.... anyone know how this car has done with other drivers this year?
Whats he driving at Knoxville?

I have been going to OCFS since the early 1980s. Their big race, the Eastern States 200 in October, is the grand old race of Northeast dirt Modifeids. The track is actually only a 1/2 mile, even though it always gets billed as a 5/8.
I am kinda shocked to read you call the place a "nice facility." LOL Granted, Halmar (the same tea Stewart Friesen drives for in the NASCAR Trucks, has put some money into the place with things like replacing all the seating in the covered grandstands last year, but OCFS gets crushed on the Modified forums for how much the place has deteriorated over the past 20-25 years. The problem is that the property owner leases out the track, and has done for decades, so no promoter is going to voluntarity put a lot of money into the facility.
I do love going to OCFS, though, because the place just oozes history. There used to be hundreds of old OCFS photos dating back to the 1960s under the food stand by the first turn. It was awful, however, that all that history was lost when the roof leaked a few years ago and the pictures were destroyed.
Inevitably, OCFS will give way to progress, however. The neihborhood surrounsing the track has become pretty rundown in recent years, and there just aren't many places like that left anymore in the middle of a town. The property owner has been very open about the fact that he would sell the property for the right price.

Lots of seats, really good ones in main grandstand
Better than lots of other dirt tracks I've been to. facility wise.
But the racing could have been a lot better.
Just got back from Lebanon Valley, pretty drive.
But very little passing.... I don't know about these big upstate NY modified tracks, it was the same last year
Tonite everybody was running the top, so most passing attempts were on the bottom, very few successful
Dietrich won.... does an upstate NY Allstar race qualify as "leaving the porch"?
Sammy 3rd, I think Smoke was 6th

The Valley is notorious for being tough to pass, as is OCFS. The oft-told joke about Lebanon Valley is that fans should go to nearby Fonda Speedway for the racing and Lebanon Valley for the food. One thing about Lebanon Valley, though, is that their prices are amazingly low, lower than a similar show at just about any other track around. They run a $17,500 to win Modified show called "Mr Dirt Track USA" each year and only charge $18 to get in. Even WoO shows were only $25, IIRC. Up until just a few years ago, the Valley was still selling lots of their food items for just $1.
The Valley and OCFS are not the upstate New York Mod tracks to go to if you want to see passing, especially a Sprint Car format that puts the fast guys up front.
One of the other problems with WoO or ASCoC races in New York is that there just aren't enough quality 410s in the field, since only a few locals have a 410. As aresult, the cars usually spread out fairly quickly.
Places like Canandaigua, Fulton, Albany-Saratoga are much more racey on a weekly basis.

Yo Rev sounds like a nice weekend watching some racing up in NY for you...awesome.
The 35 Sammy drove is owned and run by Jared Zimbardi who runs mostly 360 ESS, Patriot Sprints, etc. in NY and ONT. He does have a 410 and has in the past come to Lernerville a number of times during the season. I think it was 2015 when he made the trek to Lernerville most weeks with his 410. Hasn't done a ton of 410 racing this year (some All Star shows and the Ohsweken WoO show). Off the top of my head this is the first time he's had someone else drive his car this year (or maybe even the last few years). Jared and his family own the car and he drives it. Jared raced the recent All Star races in PA two weekends ago and so did Spencer Bayston. My guess is they (Jared and the Swindells) somehow got to talking at those All Star PA Races and Jared agreed to have Sammy race his car this weekend as I'm sure Sammy's using some seat time as a tune up for Nats.

Yea, I'm about to give up on OCFS & Lebanon. Trouble is that the other tracks you mention are long drives for me, as far or further than Central Pa.
I was giving Lebanon one more chance because (A) sammy (B) Coming up Rt. 8, 2 hr. drive, is a very pretty drive after 1st half hour. Old New England, lakes forest, hills

Well I guess Sammy still has it, dominated in that car at OCFS & was fast time, finished 3rd last nite. Passed Tony Stewart in his heat, one of the few passes of note the whole nite (Kemenah passed a few in his heat also)

I love the Valley, even if the racing often leaves a lot to be desired.
It actually has gotten better over the years, they've improved the low groove a bunch for mods, but the sprints have always struggled to pass there.

I was hoping for some good races with the mods, but not a whole lot of passing with them either

Like I said, I the Valley is notorious for being a very tough place to pass. Almost all of the DIRT travelers hate the place; Bob McCreadie and Alan Johnson are two big-name Modified guys who have said over the years that the Valley is their least favorite place on the DIRT tour (a lot of drivers also hated the Syracuse mile). it's also a track where the regulars are very tough.
Brett Hearn in a Modified is amazing there. If Hearn would have spent his entire career there instead of OCFS, he would most likely have somewhere around 250-300 Modified wins at the Valley. Kenny Tremont Jr. is also amazing there. The Valley does have passing on the weekly shows since the Modifeids are handicapped with low points to the front. Hearn is amazing there because he seemingly passes 5-6 cars each lap in the early stages of the features simply by being able to stay glued to the bottom in the turns while everyone else slides up the banking.
Tremont won his first Modified track title there in 1980, and has driven for his father his entire career there. Ken Tremont Sr. has owned cars at the Valley since the 1960s and AFAIK, still has a perfect attendance streak at the track that goes back over 50 years. A couple times, the Tremonts got caught at a DIRT Series race far from the Valley and had to make 9-10 hour tows to keep the perfect attendance streak alive. Tremont Jr. had a 25-year streak of seasons with at least one feature win at the Valley from 1982-2006.
