The track slows down the longer it goes on...
is it just luck that Schatz goes out first?

If you're implying Schatz got some advantage by being first out, he didn't. They invert the top 30 in times for the heats then start the feature heads up based on the heat finish. Other than a guaranteed 19th starting spot, there's no advantage to being quick time at thr Royal.

Wasn't implying anything ... really was just curious how the draw for qualifying worked and what advantage there was to it

There was none. Schatz ran like normal and everyone else was sandbagging outside of Bell and Sides.

I don't see the point of running time trials when the top qualifier ends up starting 5th in his heat race and the feature is heads up, especially in a 50k to win race. It obviously worked out for Schatz but it seems Mickey Mouse to me. They already run 3 nights anyways so they should either just start the heats heads up based on time trials or do something with combined points like Knoxville does to set half the field for the final night and then run the regular qualifying show to set the second half of the field.

His x ray eyes lets him look into the pill bottle and ricky warner has him pull the number he wants so he can go out and set fast time. Some may believe that, i better quit while i am ahead. The 15 team kicked tail. If Bell and Smith could have started a little closer it could have been a race. But, was DS giving it his all in the closing laps or was he saving anything if someone showed there nose. Something will never no. The month of money races will be interesting.

The fast qualifier starts 5th in his heat and has to win heat to start in front 3 rows.Seems fair to me.

How many heat race starts and restarts ended up with the third place car having the lead before they hit the start finish line, by getting a jump on the bottom while the leader slid up the track.

I like the KR format. Heat races are exciting knowing they win the start in the first 3 rows. Please don't turn it into a 3 day points system, I like how a car can show up on just Saturday and make the show. That's what makes the KR interesting all these years.

I would agree, the only thing I might change is to make Thurs/Fri winners guaranteed starters in the Royal. Or give some incentive to be quick time by giving 5 or 10k to be quick time.
But the heats yesterday were the best of the year.

Format, the fastest 2 qualifiers that didn't transfer out of their heat races gets the 19th & 20 the starting spots. Schatz wins heat, Sides finishes 4th or 5th in heat & takes the 19th starting spot, Bell has motor issues in heat, changes motor & takes the 20th starting spot.

Like I said, no matter what the format is someone will complain... That was some of the best racing from heat to features I've seen but people are always gonna gripe.

The draw is 100% completely random. Its done at the WoO trailer and they use a bingo roller.

Schatz was in flight "B" on Friday night (went out no better than 27th) and still had quick time overall. Went out 1st Saturday, still quick time. Doesn't matter what pill they draw. This topic is dumb

When Schatz is getting ready to draw they pull the low numbers out of a freezer and put them in the drum so he can feel which one to pull. Look up the 1985 NBA Draft.

There is no "gimmick" to Schatz beating the current class of 410 racers at major events...but there might be once he has the FORD POWER PLANT!
Lincoln 1845 ft/.35 mile T1=118MPH
Eldora 2287 ft/.43mile T3=135MPH
Port 2716 ft/.51 mile T3=TBD
Grove 2792 ft/.53 mile T3=135MPH
Selinsgrove 2847 ft/.54 mile T1=136MPH
