Karl Kinser was on Open Red for over an hour long talk. Again, Open Red is available on the WoO website under the News heading. If you listened in, what did you enjoy most, or take from his interview? If you haven't heard this interview, do yourself a favor. Every sprint car fan will enjoy it. Some really good stuff, and Karl doesn't mince words on bit! It will remain available to listen to the same as all the other broadcasts have.

What an amazing god damned interview!!! (If you listen to the interview you'll understand the god damned reference lol). Very very interesting. I almost wish it was a longer 2 or 3 part interview because it was awesome.

I laughed when he made mention two or three times i believe. work on the car instead of going up there to get a hamburger and god dam (lol) soda. The guy was intense. Sad part was the wreck about the drag link, Kevin Gobrecht. He and DS would have been the SS and SK of yester year. Great interview.

Mark used to go and buy a hamburger and hide behind my photo deal at the different tracks, he was always starving. Few people more fun than Mark, he had some real strong views on Karl also, lol....

I thought it was neat that he traded one of Steve's Coors Light cars & a Mopar 5m to the Speedway Motors Museum for a 34' Chrysler.

They've been doing a good job with these. Having some good guests on. hopefully over winter I can catch up and listen to them all. other favorites include Guy Forbrook, Paul Arch, Tom Dreery, & Brian Carter. listened to half the Karl Kinser episode and ran out of time, will finish it soon.

Thoroughly enjoyed the Karl interview! I think I spent 1/2 the time laughing at his stories and language. Just a hunch that hanging out with him on a Friday/Saturday night would be very cool!

"God and Moses both, in a sidecar, could not drive a sprint car with 1000 horsepower when the track gets slick. You cain't do it."
"When they give you the green flag, there's no pit stops, no bullshit, it's all assholes and elbows and if you ain't right.....they'll send your ass to the rear. And... that's just about my sentiments of it."
Those were my two favorite quotes. I also enjoyed the story of Steve racing a go kart. 90 minutes of my time well spent.

I need to listen to this - love Karl. Your second quote is interesting though. Even Karl would have to admit that the only reason Steve Kinser won the '93 Knoxville Nationals instead of Stevie Smith is because of an open red late in the race. They were out to lunch before Karl got to the car during that red having just gotten passed for the lead by both Stevie and Mark Kinser.

Karl may very well be right about the horsepower......he said the gearing is the only thing that makes that much power manageable. Also said something needs to be done about it but he wasn't sure what. I've listened twice, and it's just as interesting the second time!

Good stuff. Liked how they gave Karl plenty of time to answer/reply to their questions. Knew Steve was good, Karl said 50/50 on their success. And the quote on sprint car racing at Eldora, "priceless".
From central coast of Cali.
Peace, Out.

Great interview!
The only reason they can put 1000 hp to the ground is the current Hoosier tires.
They used to run better dished wings and a lot of good guys still run PRO shocks.
God and Moses just need a sticky Hoosier. SOD tire rule is the answer.
Like Karl says it doesn't take a genius to figure out that an ol' farm boy can't afford a $40,000 engine.
Or $65,000 for one that makes 950+.
Again awesome interview, everyone should listen. A lot of history there. Almost the entire history of sprint car racing.
They don't even know how to spell sprint car
much less chromoly...http://www.ycmco.com

I listened twice. Just for thought; karl / steve. Ricky / donny. Hmm, he did say that ricky was on the road with him. He must have picked up some good work ethics. Don't belive Ricky was getting a hamburgar and coke. Hmm.
From central coast of Cali.
Peace, Out.
