Four Andy Durham Fords that raced in the Lucas Oil late model race last night finished first, second, third and fourth. If Durham was aloud to bring his current stuff to big time sprint car racing we wouldn't have to pray for Kyle Larson to show up to see something cool. If not, we might as well make Kyle race with one hand behind his back to keep things consistent.

What is preventing him from putting his engines in a spront? Rules politics or tradition? Or fear of the unknown?
Even though I may not know you, I

Rules. Yea that's what they say. I don't really care what teams have for power. I want to see a good race. I believe a Ford could be built that would be competitive in a sprint car. Durham, Shaver and others could get a powerplant that would be competitive with the current 410's. WRG is the problem. There looking at engine builders developing new motors that could possibly put the current crop of 410's obsoulete. If someone gets a new ford or a new mopar and is putting a woop a** on the current motors your looking at a huge expense for teams. Let them build what they want and control it by throttle plate sizing and nozzle sizing. 2 of the simplest things to inspect. A motor can't make power if it doesn't get air and fuel.

Can you explain this to those of us that aren't mechanically minded? Thanks

Please correct me if I am wrong...
A valve typically is angled toward the intake and inline with angle of the cylinder or perpendicular to the crank. Canted valves then are also angled toward the intake but also angled toward the front or back of the engine and not perpendicular to the crank

Let's say I am wrong. Let's say the multiple people in the industry that have told me this were lying. Lets assume there are no rules that outlaw both Ford designs that absolutely dominate hundreds of small block chevies in big time dirt late model racing. We now must admit that not a single sprint car team in the entire country that can't run with Donny Schatz and Kyle Larson a. notices this fact b. has the energy to pick up the phone to order some c. isn't adicted to the look of siamese exhaust port headers d. isn't affraid of the extra power e. doesn't enjoy getting beaten like a red headed step child or f. isn't concerned about having something to easily liquidate before their "cheaper" option bankrupts them.
I think I'll stick with my "rules" answer.

All I know is if Ford gets involved all this is going to do is drive the cost of engines even higher for everyone as people will keep on spending and spending to make their stuff competitive. It is a no win situation IMO.

I don't know if he's right or wrong but don't I remember the canted/splayed valve heads that were becoming available for sbc around 2000 deemed illegal? I've looked at the 2017 WoO rulebook and see no mention of it other than new combinations must be submitted for approval.

Innocent question gone bad. Was looking for a factual answer. Maybe there isn't one.

I hadn't looked at the rules in the last several months till now. I see that the rules have changed from "no canted, splayed or rotated valves" to basically nothing but exactly what everyone is already running unless we say you can. I guess its time for a WoO sprint car rep to answer the question for us. Are the Ford SC1, D3, RY45 or FR9 heads allowed in WoO sprint car competition? I would love to be wrong.

It seems like the real question should be "Has anyone building the Ford engines with the above listed heads officialy asked the WoO if they are legal?". Otherwise, it just sounds like you're dancing around because you don't know the answer to the question and don't want to appear dumb or out of the loop.

Who cares. If this great Ford engine gets legalized and is truly better then in a short time everyone will be running one. And how will everyone running a Ford motor be better than everyone running a Chevy? It would just run some owners out of business because they could not afford to buy all new motors to be competitive.

Obliquely asking the question to no one in particular on a message board isn't quite the same as an engine builder formally asking the rule makers.

Engine builders building them have told me theyre not legal. Ford Performance claims they are starting almost from scratch because of rules that people say are in place to keep costs down. Sort of like restrictor plates being used to minimize wrecks in Nascar.

Classic example of Minthess trying to twist everything around. NASCAR didn't bring in restrictor plates to minimize wrecks. It was to prevent wrecking cars from getting airborne.
