That was fun. Props to Brian Brown for making things interesting there at the end. He looks rejuvenated.

Brown looks as good as ever after some what having a down year last year. That car has been fast all across the country. Something I've really noticed is how well he times everywhere.
What a night of racing. Heats... Mains... they all were pretty dang good! Already ready for next week.
The only question I have from the night which I'm curious what others think is why did Garner start ahead of Roberts after that last caution? I felt like the lap wasn't completed but maybe the rules state something different from the first lap to all the other laps in a race. Certainly the yellow was thrown before anyone after 3rd crossed the line. No big deal as I'm sure the results still would have ended the same but I wanted to see Garner work for it there on the restart.

Knoxville uses a split yellow. Garner was leading at the flag stand and yellow came out after he passed the flag stand. So he gets to keep the pass. If yellow came out before he crossed the S/F line Roberts would have got the lead back.

Interesting. So the first lap of the race is different than the rest? I just seem to remember everyone having to pass the start finish to always get that sometimes pesky first lap in for a race. I figured this was just a simple rule deal So it didn't bother me he got the spot but I do wonder how the race would have went if it were the other way. Poor Roberts trying to make some darning moves in the traffic just to stay ahead of Garner. Great job by him putting on a heck of a show out there.

Watched this race on the cushion and was amazed with how racy the track was and the efficiency of the show they put on. Was surprised to be able to go to bed before midnight eastern time since I'm an hour late of Knoxville.

IADIRT, you are correct. The rules are, if a yellow or red situation happens before ALL cars cross the start/finish line on the opening lap, it will be a complete restart. After (1) lap is complete, we use a "split yellow", where if the leader crosses the start/finish line under green and then the yellow or red is displayed, that lap counts and all cars that crossed under green will be scored in that order with the cars that did not cross under green will be lined up according to THEIR previous completed lap. Hope this helps...z

And Congratulations to the entire #18 Ryan Roberts race team for winning the $2500 first place cash at I-80 Speedway on Friday night and a 2nd place run last night at Knoxville, after the tough week they had. Thoughts and prayers for those involved...z

Thanks Z. Makes sense as it would be much easier to score that way as well.

What was the deal with the second start attempt in the 305s? Was the flag thrown due to a bad start? Seemed the start was fine outside of Leavitt getting on the inside berm, but I'm kind of confused on why he got the pole back.

It took four tries to get the 305's started. First try the outside front row driver held back and crossed behind the pole sitter to take the inside coming to the line. I believe they were going to call that back but a turn one accident brought out the yellow anyway. Attempt two same thing outside driver held back and crossed to the inside and they called that one off and gave them the you know keep it in line signal waving the flag at them. Third try outside driver didn't try it again but pole sitter catched the bern and gets crazy out of shape as you mention. It really messed up the whole field and I think that is why they called that one off also. Also not sure as to keeping his spot. He never stopped but the yellow was sorta because of him. Not sure were the rules fall on that. It was for a sure a lucky break for him as he fell back half way through the field by turn one.

Ah, just watched the video and it only showed two failed starts.
Just curious, the start itself was fine, but if you're going to throw the caution I believe it is for Leavitt and he should be penalized as such.

On the third restart the guy outside the front row crowded Leavitt all the way into the inside berm. He literally had a half a car width of room down there on that start hence he hooked the berm. There was no doubt the guy starting second wanted to get to the bottom as soon as possible. Should he have been penalized? I dont know cause really he wasn't the issue with the first two starts as he should set the pace. The yellow was for another bad start I think on the third one. I think they should have switched row one with row two after the three failed starts.

It's good to see kid's graduate threw the ranks as you note.
Clint is simply the man. Nicest guy, family team, full time job. Just shows up and wins (and has won in 410 and 360)...with a big smile on his face.
I audibly laughed at my desk on that last line...Ian was actually pretty consistent and looked good (and didn't tear stuff up) on his WoO "tour" earlier in the year, but ummm...yeah, clean slider every so often would be nice
