Pittman, Stewart and Saldana are having bad years by their standards. Saldana is a new team and I think Pittman and Stewart have changed crew chiefs in the offseason.

10 days ago, everyone was speaking of sprint car (or, more to the point WOO) armageddon. Donny was winning at a pace never before seen in the history of the world. (Even though it had been seen at an even higher level for 20+ years before)
I've been in awe of what Donny has been able to accomplish the last 10 years. However, in the here and now----there is a new sheriff in town.
Congrats Mr. Gravel!!!!!

I agree with you! He is off to an amazing start this year. I dont undertand the people that are being rude that you said this! Look at the age factor David is 24 years old and Donny is 39.. A 15 year difference. Was Donny doing this at David's age? It is amazing to see young talent on the tour!

Great to see David running well. I can't wait to see the wildchild jr. rippin the lip at husets and grandforks as he has been fast as well at times good to see paulie and the destiny team on the podium also. Alot of new crew chief/driver pairings that will get better as the year goes by. But WAY to early to think Don Don is not still the "sheriff"

Don Don will always be the sheriff! once he gets on his type of tracks...
Gravel has had a great start to the season minus a few mishaps.
how long into the tour did Don Don start really getting the wins in. At what age did he start dominating or Years into him being a consistent outlaw driver. Can anyone answer that. Has he always been a natural at it?

I did a little research. (Son woke up with stomach flu so no work for me til noon--so nothing better to do!)
Donny and David's win totals before age 25 are very similar. Donny had 13 wins by the age of 25. Gravel has 19 and counting.
Donny's big breakthrough year came in 2006 at the age of 29 with 17 wins and the championship. That was at a time when no one thought Kinser could be touched. But alas, Steve got older, the young gun got better and the guard changed. May not be time yet, but to say Don Don will always be sheriff may be overstating it just a tad don't you think?

Good stats digging! Interesting that you mention '06 ... that was the year of the split between WoO and National Sprint Tour (NST). Kinser, Meyers, Lasoski, TK, Shaffer, Stewart, McMahan, Sides, and Solwold were some of the WoO teams that went the way of the NST.

While he didn't become dominant until 2006, he had become a big money racer prior to that. He came within 5 laps of winning Knoxville in 2000, won 3 National Opens, and the Historical Big One in 2002.
I think your point about Gravel is valid, and I do think he's the next dominant driver. Everyone who said (insert young driver struggling on WoO tour) "Schatz wasn't winnign as many races as he does now when he was (insert age)" missed the point. Schatz had shown he could win big races and contend with the big boys of the era. Gravel has shown similar potential.
To your other point about knocking the 15 off the pedestal, I think real competition in the form of not just the field but a real rival will only make them better. He's only 39 and Kinser was great (meaning top of his game) until he was about 51. So Schatz could easily dominate for another decade.

Chilly--didn't make the connection when I was stat digging but you are absolutely correct--forgot about the split year in 2006. That didn't hurt the rise to the top beginning that season. (and he never looked back)
Also, dsc--no doubt about it, Donny ain't going anywhere for a while. My hope is Gravel will continue to improve and Schatz will maintain. We could see 10 years of some incredible duels between these two. Who knows? 10 years is a long ways out to predict. There are plenty of other drivers that could hit their stride and jump in the mix as well, but right now Gravel seems to be the only car to night in and night out run up front or run to the front.

Not a huge difference but by 1 he has 20 WOO WINS and 5 total for this year 1 with the allstars and 4 outlaws

I think it's safe to say Donny could dominate for AT LEAST another decade. Keep in mind, Kinser's prime lasted until he was 50-51 but he never kept himself in shape and he smokes like a chimney. Donny on the other hand, got himself in terrific shape a few years ago and now, is one of, if not the most, physically fit driver on the WoO tour. That could make a huge difference when it comes to stalling father time a little bit on down the road. Either way, Gravel has become a big thorn in Donny's side and has become a legitimate title threat and is still on the rise. This will only make Donny better but I think Gravel is here to stay. Should make for some really exciting racing. One other thing, we still haven't seen how the Ford program will work out for the 15 team. If they are able to get an edge that no one else has, that could really spell trouble for everyone else.
