All it takes is money, and a couple of thousand hours of work.

P.S. I REALLY don't think you'll see Doug in a race car ever again.

I am lucky enough to work at one of the best tracks
anywhere.

It is a 1 shot deal full of nostalgia. I do not feel that the crowd would even come close or pay that much to witness 2 guys having a match race again. JMHO

I agree, would love to see maybe Bobby Davis Jr, Just a bunch of the legends race around the track. I know it cost money, but could you imagine it happening. Would be priceless.

Prior to the Legends Race, Wolfie was on "Winged Nation" and said himself he was looking forward to the race and was going to be back in the 29 Weikerts car. He praised Rahmer for putting the race on. Almost at the eleventh hour, he had a conflict that wasn't going to allow him to be there, that is when Jacobs was tapped to wheel the 29. So yeah, he was going to get back into the car. Never say never. I feel fortunate to have seen him at his best when he was a regular in the PA Area.

I think the only ones that will ever know for sure why Doug chose not to drive in the Legends Race are Doug himself, and his family. My gut tells me that in part, it may have had to do with Doug's competitive nature in a sprint car, and the burning desire that he had in his prime to win races. His interview at the Nationals the summer he was burned pretty much describes that desire. He was barely walking with a cane, yet he said when they came up over the hill into Knoxville that day his hands got sweaty and he wanted to be in a car so bad he could taste it. I don't think it would have taken much to re-awaken those desires even for just one promotional race.  A desire like that in a person lasts for a lifetime. And, I don't think he would have been happy simply turning laps. He did allude to that once during a visit to his shop. Said he didn't want to look like shit! And for him to get in a sprinter and push it is far too risky to his body. The burns, two broken necks.....the man went through hell. For those of us who witnessed his rather short career, we can honestly say he was second to none when he had a solid team behind him, and could beat them all pretty handily!  Even in less than top equipment, he was damn hard to beat and won against the best of his day.

Four of the best are still racing.Sammy,Lasoski,Smith and Jac.The legends race at Knoxville with a 50 year old requirment wasnt old enough.I still remember Loyd Beckman in Danny Youngs car at Webster City he literaly became 25 years younger when He put on his helmet.
