Racesaver Meeting today went extreamly well at the Boone Speedway. Now the Racesaver's have a new home here in Iowa! Boone Speedway Schedule looks to start the second week in April ( track has a frostbuster the first weekend of April --- No racesavers at frostbuster series wink and run every saturday night through the end of July. Most likely the racesavers will not race the weekend of the Jackson nationals June 1-3 but the offical schedule and purse will be determended before the end of the year!

Glad to hear! That class was on the rise in DesMoines and should have better racing on a shorter track like Boone. Hopefully they can put a nice purse together to keep the guys coming back.

The Racesaver’s were arguably the premier class at Des Moines averaging 18-20 cars every Friday night! Now the sprints are where they should be ( a small track ) to provide a premier show as well! It might be a little bumpy to start but after a few weeks to get the bugs out the class will transition into the smooth program that Boone already runs. Some questions were asked today about the purse and nothing was set in stone. Hopefully the purse is nice enough to possibly pull some new drivers into the class!

Boone runs a fast paced show and the track is usually prepared very well. The 1/4 mile track is exactly where the RaceSaver will shine. This will be the most affordable form of sprint cars and hope it works out.Tony gave them the start they needed as Knoxville went to the higher priced 305s and even though they seem to have a good field motor costs are too high for  most limited budget racers.

Glad to see Boone pick up the 305's. Hopefully the payout will be good, not like the $400 to win @ Knoxville.

To promote IMCA 305's it would be good to go to other area tracks around the state of Iowa & do like they have done in Nebraska the past couple of seasons with which is now the Sprint Series of Nebraska.

You do realize the 305's are the 2nd Support Class at Knoxville right??  If they were the headliner class, I'd agree.  Bottom line is that the top class is going to have the best purses, the next highest class will get less and hte next highest class will get less than them (been that way since racing started hasn't it?).

And for what it's worth, Modifieds are top class at Boone.  in 2016, the Iowa State Fair Speedway paid the top purses for IMCA at $600 to win for 305's..... and paid $550 to win for Modifieds.

Knoxville should go to racesavers 305.

to end the high cost of 305 motors it just like the 410 and 360 the person with the most money wins.

and yes Knoxville needs to rise all the purses, they have the money don't kid yourself.

I totally agree, and I hope others do as well! This will be a whole new fan base at Boone and I think they will love the winged warriors and the electric atmosphere that the Boone Speedway will provide! Like I previously stated, the sprint cars were the premiere class at Des Moines.. Obviously I don’t expect that the Sprints will have the biggest car count at Boone ( Seeing this is the home of the super nationals ) but I do expect them to provide just as good if not a little better of a feature event.. as long as slide jobs are permitted that is! But in the end hopefully some drivers from the other classes will see how low cost this class is and the class could grow to a size that would be able to sustain a touring series! It all has to start somewhere and hopefully Boone is the start the class needs!

Where is Boone?

Boone is approximately 45 Northwest of Des Moines. Easiest way to get there from Des Moines is to get on I-35 North out of Des Moines, go to Ames and get on Highway 30 West out of Ames. Then you go about 15 miles and the racetrack is on the South side of the Highway. It's about a qurter to 3/10 mile track, high banking and wide. I've seen stock cars go 6 wide in turns one and two before.

so you do their books and know this for fact?  I think most people have no idea how much (or little) racetracks make that run weekly races.

Overhead at a track like Knoxville is huge compared to everywhere except maybe Eldora.  Can't compare them to Charlotte or Texas because they have the NASCAR track where they share employees and such.

On behalf of Racesaver, and more personally for myself, I want to extend a HUGE thank you to Boone Speedway for stepping up and welcoming the Racesaver sprints to their facility. I too believe that this can be a big benefit to not just the racers, but to the track also.

I know what a risk this is for Boone, to be having sprints at a speedway that has not traditionally been a sprint car track.

We all believe that Boone Speedway will be a great addition to the Racesaver community for many years to come.

I am lucky enough to work at one of the best tracks
anywhere.

Where is Boone?

Boone is known mainly for the IMCA Super Nationals, it's racey and fast and allows for a ton of sliders.  should be interesting to see how they fair there

FWIW.....At Eagle Raceway in Nebraska, where the Racesaver IMCA 305's have flourished....the payoff is $700 to win and $250 to start with $100 tow.....the Modified payoff is $400 to win and $150 to start and, I believe $50 tow......as far as drivers in other classes moving up, our last three ROY's have come from sport mods, mini sprints, and sport compacts and have all finished in the top ten in season points.....I'm currently fielding a racesaver sprint with a 2 year old used chassis ($5000 w/ spares) and used engine ($9000 pan to injectors)  which missed qualifying for the Nationals A main by 2 positions.......$14000, which is less than the cost of most new modified rollers.. ....in 2016 (fourth year of Racesaver) the avaerage weekly car count was 29 with over 50 different cars racing there weekly during the season.......IMO, they shouldn't grow too fast,   and split car counts with too many tracks that are too close together.......it would, however, be nice to have at least two, or as in Nebraska, a touring series that visits several area tracks, so  A: more fans can experience sprint cars at their home track and   B: drivers can have better chance at National point standings as in Minnesota, Texas, and Pennsylvania (their touring series has 48 events during the season.......all in all, glad the Iowa boys will have a place to race...........SC

I think your post clarifies that this is not a huge purse $$$ class, it's for fun/learning to drive.

I don't think that Boone will pay $700 to win (my guess is $500 or less) until the class has a solid car count and fans coming through the front gate,  the bottom line is that it's just another class and added expense for the track until that happens.

I hope (and think) that the RaceSavers will have decent car counts and will have good races.

Do I think that RaceSavers will "move the needle" and bring in tons more fans to Boone?  No I don't.  As, much like Knoxville fans are known as being "sprint car only" fans, Boone is known as "stock car only" fans.  Be interesting to see if they warm up to Sprint Cars or if they complain about the push-starting and waiting for them to line-up and race (stock cars leave the pits and take the green flag when they get to turn 4 - you cause a caution you are done).

Many on this board always seem to forget that there are 3 groups to keep happy to make a class successful:  The Racers (purse $, formats, how they are treated), the Fans (good racing, affordable, well run show), and the Promotors (need to make $$, and please the other 2 groups).  Any of those 3 being dissatisfied usually dooms a class.

Vande....."Not a huge purse".... compared to what?......you have to run third in the 360's at Knoxville (and spend how much for engines to be competitive?)  to make that  $700.......same start money of $250.........even at that, the key is not so much the winners share, but what the 20th finisher gets that grows the class and brings drivers back.......(IMO  $50 to start the 305 Feature at Knoxville is almost a slap in the face)......and on the contrary, although it IS a great way for beginning drivers to move into Sprints, it was NEVER intended to be a beginners class, just a more affordable way to race a sprint car.  (as much as I love 410's and 360's, I could never afford to field a competitive  team in those divisions, but I can be involved with the Racesaver deal......Hopefully the fans and drivers turn out, and keeps the class alive and well in central Iowa......just a re-clarification of my clarification I guess...LOL.......  SC       by the way, there's a  Big PASS (Pennsylvania Sprint Series)  Racesaver sprint show this weekend at Port Royal along with 360s and 410's....heard they had 57 Racesavers pre registered...........SC, out. wink

What I mean is, everyone thinks that because it's a sprint car that it has to pay $1500+  to win.  RaceSaver has proven that you don't.

I'm not knocking RaceSaver purses, some on here knock other tracks and what they pay.  Do I wish all tracks paid more to every class of cars they race?  Sure I do, but will fans continue to pay more for tickets for that to happen?  I don't think they will.

If RaceSavers are considered the 3rd Support Class at a track do you expect their purse to be the same as the track headlining the event?  (that was my point, others view the 305 purse at Knoxville as a "slap in the face" even though their business model is to get teams/drivers to move up into the 360's and 410's, not to stay in 305's).

At other tracks (Eagle, ISFS, Boone), the RaceSavers are considered the headliner (or at least I hope they are), as a FAN, I would expect that their purses are better there than at tracks where they are a support class for another event (like when they are supporting a World of Outlaw event for example, the promotor has them there to fill time and be entertaining, not to put fans in the stands and earn $$. He has the WoO there for that.).

I think RaceSavers have a place in the landscape of sprint car racing.  And right now, it's a good starter class for drivers to learn to drive (IMO) and then move up (if that is their desire) or to stay in and race as a hobby.  I hope that it doesn't become IMCA Modified racing (spend tons of $$ and IMCA collect $$ every time you buy a tire or crate engine and race for $400 to win for the next 30+ years).

I saw the RaceSavers at DesMoines and thought they put on good racing, unfortunately a lot of the buzz in the stands every time I attended (from the 250 or so in attendance) was that they take too long to get going and they drag out the show.  Hopefully the fans in Boone don't think the same.

Didn't Boone run IMCA sprints years ago? The 360s with the small wings & narrow side boards?

Yes. IMCA sprints raced at Boone back closer to 2002-2003. The midwest 305 series was able to race their as well but at the time they were struggling with a car count..
