Mother Nature is tough. Will probably get a better crowd on the 14th than this Sunday anyway. It probably cost them last year.

It is a shame Ma Nature won again but it was the most logical thing to do under circumstance .Wow, maybe Port should increase there purse the same weekend for the driver's because now the crowd will increase , if we get pretty decent weather .

I am not sure I see Port's crowd increasing. I would say it is possible for it to go either way. Many travalers would have had their vacation days scheduled for this week and may not get them for another time. A few may come for two races that would not have come for one but it might even out.

Plenty of new grandstands to accommodate the fans at Port...the Grove should have runnig a Friday night race down pat at this point...Port staff knows how to run a Saturday night race...
Lincoln 1845 ft/.35 mile T1=118MPH
Eldora 2287 ft/.43mile T3=135MPH
Port 2716 ft/.51 mile T3=TBD
Grove 2792 ft/.53 mile T3=135MPH
Selinsgrove 2847 ft/.54 mile T1=136MPH

Port Royal Speedway is now the class track of PENNSYLVANIA ,6200 seats with backs, ultra modern rest rooms
great food and one of the best track surfaces in Pennsylvania n maybe in the nation , so any one coming into Williams Grove needs to stay over Saturday and catch the WoO race on Oct, 15 t Port Royal Speedway............

Make them both $25,000 to win. That will fill Port's grand stands.

I think that would be a cool idea. You'd only need about 500 additional fans at 30 a pop (or is it $35) to pay for the increase in purse. I think you'd be able to pull it off.

I would assume some Outlaw teams will race the Grove next Friday (Gravel, Shark Racing) so it could make for a good show.

I'll likely ride the 465 mile over for the grove/port weekend if the weather looks good.

Maybe williams grove will realize that a 3day national open is not the way to go 0 for 6 and a sunday show last year that cost them lots of money! Go Hodnett!

Not racing Sunday is the right thing to do. I was surrounded by out of state fans in the camping area that would have had to leave Sunday morning to get home for work Monday. The fans lose out on the race and the Grove loses out on the gate bucks. Not good! Right decision

Yep +1. I hope Kathy and Justin stick with it. The National Open was always special with one of the best atmospheres in sprint car racing. This 3 day deal might make it even better if the damn rain will stay away. I'm already looking forward to next year. Thanks Kathy, Justin, the rest of the staff, Kolten Gouse and Co for the Benefit. Jeremy Elliott for the coverage and updates. The list goes on and on. Thank you!!

I'm local, gonna give my age here a bit when I say I've seen Steve Smith, Lynn Paxton, Kramer Williamson win the National Open long before they thought of an outlaw sanction. I am also usually big on tradition but things and times change and who says the National Open needs to be an October end of season event. Get the word out, work with other tracks and promotions/series and get rid of the Summer Nationals and turn the July dates + one into the new dates for The 3 day National Open then change the October dates and rename that to the Rainstorm Nationals or Fall Nationals or Halloween Nationals or whatever, who really cares honestly weather sucks here this time of year!

Could not agree more. I'm only 33, but I've been coming down this race weekend for basically my whole life. It seems as though the weather is never good. I know the last couple of years are prime examples, but there are plenty that stand out. I don't know if moving the race to July is the answer, since that month is already so crowded with crown jewel events. But, I would really like to see them move the race up 2-3 weeks to the first half of September. Traditions are one thing, and they are important, but they don't mean anything if the races don't happen.

Couldn't agree more. Hopefully it will work out one of these years. When it does, I think it will be one hell of a weekend. I don't care what anyone says, Williams Grove is the nucleus of Central Pa sprint car racing and the National Open is the premier event in this area by a mile. Not being able to have this race in its intended format for 2 years in a row hurts. Hopefully next year the weather will not be so damned miserable.
