Drunk driving, violating probation. Don't care how much he knows about racing or anything else, lock him up for as long as possible. Jerk should have been locked up from the start, not given probation!
Great knowledge of sprint car racing does not give him a pass for being a jackass. He's just a douchbag!

You might want to get your facts straight. He did his time in jail for the DUI. It was the probation time after he was released that became the problem. It restricted travel and that wasn't going over real well. Sucks he is back in "he did the time for the DUI" but on the postive side maybe he can start his book.

no it'snot a problem, or should not be, probation time is in lieu of jail, it;s a reduced sentence with supervision post release to hopefully allow a positive return to society. and in 27 years as an leo i never heard someone put on probation without being given both a verbal and written explanation of exactly what probation entails, including any restrictions and possible penalties for violating conditions of release. so no, he did not serve his complete possible dui sentence or he woud have maxed out and there would have been no probation. now i state again i do not know iowa law, but in ny, with his record, all bets would be off, and the judge would be free to resentence to max time. oh and that other charge in an other state, that he referred to as too inconvenient to return to court for after the initial arraignment, well guess what, if he has offended them enough, they wait until after he is sentenced and lodge a detainer warrant, the means on release day he gets picked up and transferred to that jurisdiction, and that time does not count, new state, new time

Awe, his probation restricted travel and he didn't like that! Boo Hoo! To bad he couldn't be a man and take responsibility for his actions and comply with the court. Well now he has no choice but to comply with the court by sitting in a jail cell. Best place for him!

Stan M , I would like to talk to you about your 25 years as a minister and your current religious beliefs.
Can I send you a friend invite on Facebook???

If it's a genuine interest in discussing my experiences by all means do so. On the other hand, if you're pushing an agenda (ie Matt 24:14 for the selfish motivation of saving your own ass by fulfilling your preaching obligations) let's not waste our time. I learned years ago that calling on someone's door and trying to convert them is an exercise in futility. Now I'm that guy who doesn't want to be bothered and I can understand how my own victims felt all those years ago.

I bet Ol' Dean Mills is happier than a pig in shit right now. Not sure anyone should be happy over another person's misfortune but many are. I have really enjoyed reading Kevin's writings over the years & would see him once a twice a year whenever he came out West. First time I met him we had lunch in Hermosa & I was expecting this tough, rugged guy & instead he was more like a pudgy librarian in a sprint car shirt & jeans. We had a great lunch & I sent him on his way with a $100 handshake as he headed north to Ventura. Sometime later I heard from him when he was in Phoenix & about to head west to Petrie. He was worried about hitting the highway in the Escort with what he called "bald, may pop tires!" I sent him to the Firestone Car Care center & he soon had 4 new tires & an oil change. When I saw him at the PAS he was very appreciative & said that was the first time ever he'd had 4 new tires on a car & boy it drove great! He never asked me for anything over the years & I never heard him say anything bad about anyone & when he did speak I enjoyed listening. I believe he had a strong regard for honesty & as much as he lived on the goodwill of friends & the racing family he was no sell out IMHO. It's well known the Kaeding's have always looked after him but when he felt the Brent got special treatment at Ocean Speedway with extra practice laps & then a split yellow by Mike Andreatta that allowed him to keep the lead he wrote about it & I'm sure Brent cut him off. I have enjoyed the little real time I have spent with Kevin & greatly appr coats his blog & all his other writings I have had the pleasure of reading. Take a look at Hunter S. Thompson's " Sausage Creature" article....my favorite & pretty sure it was Eck's too.
He will enjoy reading these posts I am sure so keep it up!

I only stopped on this thread to say one thing to "TheWizzard" and one thing to "Stroker Race".
"Wizzard" you are a lying scumbag, and I don't care what values you may feel you've supposedly added to society, if any. Whether you are a Purple Heart recipient, an International Red Cross Ambassador or a Doctor Without Borders.
All of which I doubt.
You are lying through your shit-caked keyboard to pretend to have heard my brother utter the words that "Jews are the termites of the earth and need to be exterminated and so on and so on". It's a complete lie and you absolutely know it, but you felt like making jokes along with your prison sodomy fantasies. I'll not attempt to shame you, since you obviously know no shame. I'll neither call you a termite, nor wish for your extermination, but you are an absolute liar first and foremost.
As far as "Stroker" deciding that he can speak for me and say I've given up on my brother, you should try harder than to just parrot a lie from a source who has long held animosity towards my brother and who has for years declared the same bullshit regarding me that you are. Whether we've ever met or not, I don't care. You can speak as ill of my brother as you wish, but you'll never speak for me, and neither will the source of the bullshit you pretend to quote.
Kev is in a bad situation of his own making, and he will face what the law has in store for him, but he isn't blaming anyone else or lying about anyone else. Look at your own crooked reflections in the mirror and convince yourself of whatever you want to.

Steve,
I have no secret source. I simply derived my opinion after reading some of your certain replies to some of Kevin's posts on his facebook page over the course of the past 2 years. I should not have included you in my last response as you are correct, there is no way I could ever speak for you. As a matter of fact, you seem to be a stand up person. It is probably too late as first opinions go a long ways but I apologize for my comments.
All in all, I did choose a subject (Kevin's brother) to discuss without having any real facts to go on and it was a poor decision. Other than that, Im not a big Kevin fan and probably never will be.

I'm confused. I know who Kevin is, what he has done, etc. Why is it anyones business, other than he and his family's? I have only posted one other time on Hoseheads, but read daily. Seems like folks should mind ones own business more than worry about someone elses. It gets so old coming on to read about racing around the country and being bombarded Damn near every topic with someones negative B.S., and it turning into a crap. Get a life people. Look in the mirror and fix your own shit before you go dragging people through the dirt.

I'll say it again: like those immediately above, I struggle with this intersection of Sprint Car racing and morality. Someone can't start 12th cars and win - even Mr. Schatz - and the thread gets 10 replies. Bring-up Tyler Walker, Kevin Eckert, or some other poor soul and the thread goes on and on.....and, yeah, I'm helping it along here....
Jan Opperman and Kenny Weld would each have been crucified on this board on their way to the Hall of Fame.

Some things I know about Kevin. He likes sprint cars, prefers non-wing but really enjoys midgets. He likes beer. He likes weed. He likes cats. He likes music, especially the blues. He enjoys good conversation. He likes to follow the road less traveled, literally, he rarely drives on interstates. He sat with my 3 year old at the race track and talked to him about every car that went by. Two weeks later he sat on the ground with the same 3 year old for an hour and played with toy sprint cars. He took my whole family to dinner at his favorite pizza joint and picked up the tab. He's honored every word he's ever said to me. He has made poor choices. He pulls no punches, makes no excuses for himself, expects no pitty, and has never tried to be someone that he is not. Sounds like a real asshole, huh?

Having had a good friend killed by a drunk driver, yes, he pled guilty to driving drunk so I consider him a real ass hole! And everyone else who thinks it's OK to get drunk and then drive!

Usually I wouldn't touch a thread like this, but, I felt I should speak up, as I've actually hung out with Kevin. I had him come stay at my house for a few nights after some night at Sun Prairie a few summers back. I had never met him face to face. He was an excellent house guest, very polite and respectful of my 24 year old (pretty hot too I might add) girlfriend and our 2 year old daughter. My only complaint about Kevin is that I don't get to see him enough. He never asked me for a thing, but I like to reach out to other open wheel dirt fans, writers, drivers, whoever that I might have some stuff in common with. I was more than happy to be a home on the road for him and will continue to be when he gets out. I wouldn't have handled his dealings with the law (and I've had my share) like he did but that's not enough for me to judge him, not even close. He makes open wheel dirt racing way more interesting for me, and as others have stated on here, you can learn a ton from Kevin in a very short time. We sat and talked for probably about 3+ hours when he first arrived at my place, until it was way past bed time. He knew far more about the history of racing in WI than I did, and I appreciate him taking the time to educate me.

I agree with Paydirt that he would probably be fun to hang out with, & you that drunk driving is an irresponsible, stupid & selfish thing to do.
I learned my lesson with that, fortunately nobody was hurt but me. But I could have killed or maimed an innocent person. Gave up drinking...
Nobody's perfect. I hope Kevin learns a lesson, serves his time OK & enjoys the rest of his life

I can completely understand that, I'm not going to make excuses for that. Just wanted to point out some positive things about my friend.
