Longdale Speedway Ready for SSO/URSS Sprint Challenge!

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma – September 1, 2016 - The Sprint Series of Oklahoma IMCA Racesaver Sprint Car Series are gearing up for a big double-header weekend on Friday and Saturday night, September 16-17, as they make their fourth and final appearance of the season at Southern Oklahoma Speedway (Friday night) before heading Northwest to Longdale Speedway in Longdale for a Saturday night showdown with the Kansas-based United Rebel Sprint Series (URSS).

The Longdale Speedway event will be the first visit for the SSO and this combined event is not only much anticipated by both 30-ci sprint series, but the tracks promotor as well.

From 2011-2016, Greg Burgess promoted Cocopah Speedway in Yuma, Arizona and for four years prior to that was the owner/director for the American Sprint Car Series Northwest region. Burgess was tabbed as promoter this past offseason by track owner Jessie Hoskins and with his knowledge of the sprint car racing landscape, is keeping an eye on the growth of the 305-ci sprinters.

“The key to the 305’s is keeping the costs low,” according to Burgess. “If it gets out of line like the 360’s and 410’s then the car counts will decline and promoters will not be able to afford to have them.” He also sees the 305 sprint class becoming a part of weekly competition at tracks across the country. “As of right now they are in a position to grow and really be something the other sprint classes can’t.” He also sees Longdale Speedway paying a role in the growth of the 305s, but it is too soon to tell the size and depth of that role. ” Hopefully, at some point, we can build a signature event for them or possibly a couple but we will have to see where we fit in best to help each other.”

Currently in the state of Oklahoma there are two tracks that run sprint cars on a weekly basis, utilizing 360-ci motors with two barrel carburetors as well as a race series for those drivers. There are no tracks that run 360-ci injected sprints on a weekly basis and the only track in the Kansas/Oklahoma/Texas region that does is 81 Speedway in Park City, Kansas. There are, however, several regions for that division that compete throughout the year in those states as special events.

Drivers running the IMCA Racesaver 305-ci motors have a chance to obtain national as well as regional points with the series and the growth of that class has exploded over the past two years. Sprint Series of Texas, SSO, Sprint Series of Nebraska have all burst on to the scene while the URSS has been in existence for several years. There are IMCA Racesaver Sprint series in other areas of the country as well, including Minnesota, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and the Carolina’s. While all utilize the top wing, the Elite Sprint Series in Texas run all non-wing events throughout the state of Texas. As one SSO driver, who has competed with 360-ci injected racing in the past, put it “We can just load up and go racing without worrying if we will be legal because all the rules are the same.”

The combined SSO/URSS event at Longdale Speedway will pay $1000 to win and will be the last sprint event slated for the track in 2016. Gates open at 5:00 PM with race time slated for a 7:00 PM start time. Grandstand admission tickets are just $15 for adults, $12 for all seniors and military while ages 12 and under will be admitted free.

Longdale Speedway is located a quarter mile south of town on Hwy 58. More information on the big three-eighths mile track and facility can be found on the tracks official website www.longdalespeedway.net or by accessing their official facebook page: Longdale Speedway.
