Ameri-Flex Challenge Report

John Lemon
OCRS Public Relations

Tulsa OK (July 21, 2016) - The number two is a fitting theme for this edition of the Ameri-Flex Challenge Report for the Ameri-Flex / OCRS sprint car series. TWO events were conducted last weekend in a Kansas doubleheader (see ocrsracing.com for complete recaps) and TWO car owners exited the standings for the 12 automatic lock-in spots thus opening the door for TWO other car owners to enter.

Waddell Racing with driver Shayla Waddell and Steve Schmidt with driver Shane Sellers move into positions 11 & 12 respectively in this edition of the Ameri-Flex Challenge Report. The remaining 10 lock-in teams are solidifying their automatic qualifying claim with each passing week.

Including this Saturday's event at the Oklahoma Sports Park in Ada Oklahoma, there are just five events left to qualify for the Ameri-Flex Challenge to be held on September 3rd at the Caney Valley Speedway. In looking at the proverbial crystal ball, this weeks 12 lock-in teams have a high likelihood of being the teams who get to play ball come Labor Day Weekend. However, with just the right circumstances, one or two spots could change but the percentages of that happening after this weekends results are vastly decreasing.

With each passing event, Ameri-Flex / OCRS officials are getting more inquiries from teams and fans regarding this special event. Mark this one on your calendars as it will be an event not seen in this region in prior years. It will also be the highest payday for an Ameri-Flex / OCRS event in series history!

The Ameri-Flex Challenge features a superb list of sponsors that without them, this event could not take place. These gracious companies and entities include:

  • Ameri-Flex Hose & Accessories
  • Caney Valley Speedway
  • Dyno Services of Oklahoma
  • Amsoil
  • Brodix
  • Maxim Racing
  • Schoenfeld Headers
  • Smiley's Racing Products
  • Rod End Supply

The current standings for the 12 automatic qualifiers per car owner (and driver) for the week ending 7/16/16 is as follows:

1) David Chappell (Zach Chappell) 1201 pts.
2) Whit Gastineau (Self) 1138 pts.
3) David Moss (Robert Sellers) 1132 pts.
4) Richard Barksdale (Sheldon Barksdale) 1034 pts.
5) Cameron Hagin Racing (Cameron Hagin) 867 pts.
6) Casey Wills (Self) 796 pts.
7) Johnny W. Kent (Johnny 'Hotrod' Kent) 721 pts.
8) Tom Pickard (Perry Pickard) 522 pts.
9) Andy Sewell (Alex Sewell) 823 pts.
10) Tim Kent (Self) 624 pts.
11) Waddell Racing (Shayla Waddell) 634
12) Steve Schmidt (Shane Sellers) 578

Note: Point standings above reflect rule qualifications for the Ameri-Flex Challenge based on attendance percentage criteria. Teams making a 75% (or more) attendance are slotted first. Next are the teams that have made 70-74%. The percentage continues at a 5% attendance adjustment until 12 'lock-in' qualifiers are set.

The Ameri-Flex Challenge will start 14 cars for a 15-lap shootout with $5,000 going to the winner. Additional cash and prizes will be paid out to the remaining 13 starters as well. This special event will be held at the Caney Valley Speedway in Caney Kansas on September 3, 2016. The field will have 12 positions locked in by a point system for ‘car owners’ with Ameri-Flex Hose & Accessories having 2 selections that will make for a 14-car field.
