Doug Wolfgang at 1990 Knoxville Nationals started Saturday night buried in the D feature and transferred to the A finishing 5th. Other than Wolgang's memorable charge through three features to reach the finals I don't recall anyone else doing anything similar. What a great memory of the Wolf at his best.

That was the one I was thinking about. I would bet he ran the most laps and passed the most cars in the entire history of the Outlaws.
I wonder if there is anything to match this at any other race track.

Not sure if anybody else coming out of the D, but Haud in 95' started 11th in the C and came up to a I believe 9th place in the A main. Didn't Kinser also within the last 10 years start somewhere in the C and make the A.

I believe Shane Stewart came from the C to finish 5th or so in the A about 10 years ago (I forget which year).

In '90, Doug performed that feet in the Williams Brothers orange #8. Don't overlook what he did in '88, two years earlier in the Kodiak #18 with Les Kepler. Started 11th in the C Feature.....ran the alphabet and finished 5th in the A main that year, too. And of course won the Nationals in '89 in the DP Motorsports 8D. Even though us Wolfie fans were disappointed with the problems in '88 and '90.....Wolfgang was THE SHOW for 3 straight years. Oh what '88 and '90 might have been except for the bad luck! But in the same breath....those three years were unbelievable as far as what one man could do in a sprint car!

Those were some great years and some great drives by Wolfie. I also remember greg Hodnett winning that last chance feature on friday evening and startng 11th in the C and driving up to 5th in the A. I beleive that was 1994.
Another memorable nights for me were Jac in 1993 on his qualifying night had some problems and had to run the C he started dead lasr, I think 22 cars total and won the things in 10 laps. Then he drove from the back of the B, 12 laps to a runner up finish in it. I had to go back and refresh my memory but he passed 3 cars on the fnal lap to get to second and they only took 2 to the A that night. From there he was only able to get to 10th in the A but man was he fun to watch.
The last was my first Nationals in 1979. Sammy had to start 6th in the B that evening and he won that and then went from the back to grab 3rd in the A and he was closing on Shuman and Randy Smith.
Great topic, thanks for bring back some great racing memories!

I don't remember which year but I do believe that Jeff Swindell ran somewhat of an alphabet. On top of that, even though it wasn't from the C or D like the original post asked, Schatz's run from the B to the win a couple years ago was a thing to behold.
My wife told me if I went to one more Sprint Car race
she would leave me.................I'm sure gonna miss
that ol' gal.

I also thought about Greg Hodnett in 1994. Won the C, was 4th in the B, then started last in the A and finished 5th. Was one hell of a run.

Not taking a thing away from what Schatz did, but he did have 50 laps with a "recess" to acomplish that.

Don't remember the exact years. (2006-2008?)
One of the years, Lasoski came from the C, got in a battle with nephew Brian for the last transfer in the B, then got in a shoving match with his dad in the pits, and ended up either 4th or 5th in the A.
Kinser did indeed come from the C right around that year as well (a year before or after maybe?) to finish 4th or 5th in the A.
