TULSA, Okla. (July 11, 2016) - The Sooner Late Model Series returns to action this weekend with a return visit to Brill’s Motor Speedway in Meeker on Saturday.
On May 7 the Sooner Late Models visited the Meeker, Oklahoma Speedway and Damian Patocha picked up the victory over veteran racer Eddie Martin.
Since then Martin earned his first victory on June 25 at Caney Valley Speedway and will be looking to become the first repeat winner of the season on Saturday.
Martin has improved his finish at each race he has run since the season opener at Southern Oklahoma Speedway.
“I kind of want to say this was destined,” Martin said shortly after picking up his first career SLMS victory.” This is the fourth (SLMS) event we have run. The first one we ran fourth, the second on we ran third, the third race we ran second. I felt like we had no option but to try and win.”
With added confidence on his side Martin battled into the lead at the halfway point and led the final 13 laps around the tight quarter-mile oval to become the fifth different SLMS winner.
The victory allowed Martin to climb into second in the series point standings 75 points back of points leader Mark Harrison. Harrison has yet to win a feature event but five top five finishes in five races has put him on top.
Dalton Ragsdale, also still looking for his first victory, sits third in points over previous winners Jay Sale in fourth and opening night winner Kip Hughes in fifth.
Gates open Saturday at 4:30 will the first green flag falling at 7:30.
Brill’s Motor Speedway is located on state highway 18 just outside of Meeker. From the Turner Turnpike (I-44), exit at the Chandler exit and follow highway 18. Track is about 10 miles south of the US 66 highway 18 junction. From I-40 take exit 186 in Shawnee and go north 16 miles on highway 18.
