I was informed yesterday that Craig Keel, one of the origonal good guys of Sprint Car racing passed away. It is believed to have been due to a unexpected heart attack while working in the yard. May he rest in peace! I know a lot of drivers and fans will have great memories of that powder blue #9

Yep it was very sad news yesterday. I remember the Crickett when he ran with the outlaws and came out to Gold Cup in the late 80's early 90's. I thought in a red and blue #8 car.

Wow, that is sad news. Prayers for his family. Thanks for passing that along. Was he still involved in racing?

He did a great job with what he had. Thanks for the efforts.
Luna's Ford engine style that won 2 WoO titles and 3
Kings Royals before a weight rule against the best EVER
in their prime and now DOMINATES super dirt late model
racing is no longer allowed/wanted in a WoO sprint
car.... Was Luna a miracle worker?

Sad to hear this. He never had big time ride that I know of but he was always competetive. RIP Craig.

Alway enjoyed him at Knoxville. One year, maybe 89 or so, he looked to be the fastest car at the Nationals. I can't remember what happened but he looked to have a good shot at taking it all. Thanks Mr. Keel!

Very sad news. He and his dad did more with nothing than anybody, but were always competive. Havent seen them in several years, but will always have great memories. Truley the quiet guy with great driver skills.

Worth repeating...couldn't have said it better. Scary part is: was thinking of him just the other day....that day's 'wonder whatever happened to'.
If he would have had a big budget, he would have done well with it, but he did well with what he had - I think he liked it that way - a true "outlaw".

Karma? Craig Keel passes and Logan Schuchart wins the next WoO race.

My thoughts, too. You guys are saying it better than I could, and with fewer words!

I remember seeing Craig run at Baylands in Northern California during the 80's. Not sure how tthat all came together but if my memory serves correctly, he used to run the weekly shows out here for a time. Seemed to be popular with the fans and was always fast! Sad to hear this news. Rest in peace Mr Keel. Condolences to his family and friends...

Craig was a true racer. Never had much but he was always a contender. One of my favorite memories was a few years back when he led a bunch of laps at the Grove during an Outlaw show and gave Steve Kinser all he could handle. The King eventually took over and won easily but man was it awesome watching one of the little guys give the King himself a run for his money. Rip cricket. You will be missed.

Remember him and his dad up in Fargo when he was running with the WoO. Never had anything flashy for sure, but they were living the dream! Everything they did was for the love of the sport, you have to admire people that lay it all on the line doing what they love to do!! RIP Craig Keel
