Carson McCarl 7th Annual Sprint Car Showdown Champion Sybesma Knots 4th Win, Anderson & Gulbrandson First Time Winners
Sioux Center, Iowa Early morning rains did not threaten the 7th Annual Mouw Motor Company Sprint Car Showdown, but led to a fast track at Sioux Speedway with plenty of traction for competitors in all divisions. First to the track for main events were the Glen’s Sport Center Hobby Stocks. Over the last half-dozen years, Dustin Gulbrandson has made the trek from Sioux Falls for nearly all Sioux Speedway events. With success common at his weekly racing venues, Gulbrandson had yet to reach victory lane at Sioux Speedway in all his tries going into Wednesday night. His luck changed as he drew a front row starting spot and took command early in the feature event and went on unchallenged for his first Sioux Speedway victory in car #6. The battle was for second and Merrill, Iowa’s Paul Menard had his streak of bad luck come to an end as he was able to finish the event in 2nd in car #16D. Drew Barglof of Sioux Rapids, IA was third driving car #88J, Colton Arends of Little Rock, Iowa made his first trip to Sioux Speedway finishing 4th, and Todd Uhl from Sheldon brought the #11T home in fifth.
The Steve Brouwer Trucking B-Modifieds started out with Trevor Kracht stretching out a lead in the first two laps before being overtaken by Thor Anderson in #41 after a caution flag. Kracht spun on lap four and relegated himself to the rear. As the race continued, the former asphalt racer, Anderson, took command and pulled off his first Sioux Speedway victory. Jake Simpson has made several 2 hour treks from Algona and went home with a trophy, but this time the “Fast 5” had to settle for second. #6 Dustin Kruse from Brandon, SD made his way to third from his 5th starting spot. Beresford, SD brothers Keegan (#10N) and Kole (#59) Nordquist finished up rounding out the top five.
Next up to the speedway were the Sybesma Graphics Stock Cars. Owner of Sybesma Graphics in Sanborn, IA, Stefan Sybesma also competes regularly at Sioux Speedway . He had a great opportunity to pick up his 4th career Sioux Speedway win by starting on the front row of the 15 lap stock car feature. It was not an opportunity lost as Sybesma went on to win the event in #5B. Mel Elsberry of Orange City tried to run down Sybesma, but ended up 2nd in car #5E. Troy Woelber had a flat early, but the Hull, Iowa racer rebounded to finish 3rd. Middleburg’s Justin Regnerus moved up from 10th to finish 4th in car #32, and Brandon Murphy from Worthington, MN finished 5th in #18A.
A fast track allowed the MSTS 360 Sprint Cars to clip off some very quick laps. The 20 lap main event went uninterrupted as no yellow or red flags slowed down the action and only five cars finished on the lead lap. Jeremy Scadden Construction’s #6 cars had an excellent evening as Carson McCarl sped away to pick up the 7th Annual Mouw Motor Company Sprint Car Showdwon crown. McCarl was able to slice through lap traffic and maintain his top spot to take the win. Dusty Zomer piloted the #82 Buffalo Wild Wings machine and came within striking distance of McCarl in lap traffic. He, however, could not take advantage and came up short in second. Past winner Gregg Bakker, #11X, moved from 8th to 3rd at the finish, Derrik Lusk finished in fourth with car #2. Finishing in fifth and the last lead lap car was the #1 of John Lambertz.
Thank you for supporting Sioux Speedway in 2016, we hope you will join us again in 2017.
