McCarty Goes Back to Back as Wiseman, K. Slader, Cole, Williams and Timms Pick Up Wins

Rob Nugent, Track Announcer/Social Media

THE EVENT

POCOLA, OK (June 11TH, 2016) – The eighth regular night of weekly racing saw 100 cars show up to take their turn at the legendary speedway in Pocola, OK. Joining us this past weekend was the MARS DirtCar Series late models along with the COMP Cams Super Dirt Series late models, who had 36 cars on hand for five heat races, two qualifying B Features and a 35 lap, 24 car, $3,000 to win A Feature.

The pre-race ceremonies kicked off with the invocation and the presentation the nation’s colors during the National Anthem by four of the drivers on hand.

First up on the agenda for the race program was heat racing for the IMCA Sport Mods, IMCA Stock Cars, IMCA Modifieds, Super Stocks, USRA Modifieds and the MARS/COMP Cams late models. The Pure Stocks did not compete this past weekend.

The intermission was next and gave everyone a chance to make a pit stop at the restrooms and get some of the great concession food, including some giant turkey legs, some world famous Menasco BBQ, home-made potato salad, a stuffed baked potato and a funnel cake for desert. One lucky 50/50 winner walked off with over $250 for their winning ticket. The previous A feature winners also received their trophies, had their photos taken and were interviewed by flagman Chris Highley.

TOP THREE

The first feature on the track after intermission was the combined IMCA Stock Car and Super Stock A Feature. The cars ran on the track at the same time, but were scored and earned points separately. When it was finished, Mike Wiseman (1 – Muskogee, OK) claimed the win in the IMCA Stock Cars, while Cecil Hayes (11H- Huntington, AR) and Keith Heaslet (5 – Indianola, OK) followed in second and third, respectively. In the Super Stocks, the win went to Kyle Slader (19S – Muskogee, OK) with Neil Johnston (17 – Fort Smith, AR) and Dylan Davlin (26D- Shady Point, OK) close behind.

Up next was the combined IMCA Sport Mod and IMCA Modified A Feature and was run just like the previous feature. Ken McCarty (1 – Rogers, AR) took the win for the IMCA Sport Mods with Logan Ellis (118 – Wagoner, OK) and younger brother, Caden Ellis (84 – Wagoner, OK) right behind. In the IMCA Modifieds, Tate Cole (89 – Fort Gibson, OK) claimed another win ahead of H. Palmer (X15 – Muldrow, OK) and Kent Bright (74 – Sand Springs, OK).

On track next was the late model A Feature that saw the race run caution free for the first 24 laps until a multi-car incident in turn three brought the race to a quick stop via the red flag. Six cars were involved and five were forced to leave the race from the damages they sustained to their cars. There were no injuries from the incident. Prior to the race stoppage, Kyle Beard had led early only to be ran down and challenged side by side for almost 10 laps by Randy Timms. Timms (5) would eventually make the pass for the lead and keep it for the remainder of the race.  Beard (86) would finish in second ahead of a charging Jesse Stovall (00).

The USRA Modified A Feature was on the track next for the last feature of the night.  Brian Williams (26 – Fayetteville, AR) crossed the finish line first for another win on the season ahead of Myles Newman (III – Alma, AR) and Kyle Ledford (75 – Greenwood, AR).
