Anybody out there use a Canon 40D SLR camera or tried it out? Please give your feedback if you care. Looking at purchasing a camera and this one looks like it fits my budget and looks like a pretty good one.

I'm buying one in the spring. I have a 10D now and all of the reviews that I have read state that the new 40D is much better than the 30D that came out a few years ago. You shouldn't hessitate on buying the 40D. I would love a bigger and better one, but like you this one fits the budget better.

I was looking at an online seller that is selling

Canon EF 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 IS USM Zoom Telephoto Auto Focus Lens
New!! Sakar DSLR AF 318 Digital SLR Flash
4GB Compact Flash Card
For $1149 and free freight.

It is probably for a gray market camera not intended for sale in the US. They are cheaper but ofter will not be covered under warranty. Same for the lens. The lens are not much good for anything other than daylight shots anyway even with IS but retail for $400 and $500. Knock off $100ea for gray market.. The flash had retailed for $109.99 but has been discontinued. The 40D is $1299 for nothing but the body. About $150 less for gray market. So a legitimate set of this would cost about $2300 new and a gray market set would be about $1950 new. This does not take into account that the 40D is on backorder everywhere right now.
I agree with Brad, I would be very wary.

You had me at 40D....
I use a EOS 350D Digital Rebel XT w/ an 18-55mm lens, because with my abuse the 40D might make it through a weekend, plus the 350 kit was reasonably priced.
Do any of you know of a market for pics of various finger parts...I've got several cds full of them!

I use a Canon 20d and a 30d. My lens combo's are a 85mm 1.8 and a 50mm 1.4. The deal you posted are grey market prices without US warranties. I would advice against buying it. I buy all my non emergency camera stuff from bhphoto.com. I have ordered from them for the last 3 years and have had nothing but good service. The 30d has dropped down to $999.99 from B&H. I love mine. If you are looking for info on any of the cameras listed, do a search on fredmiranda.com. John, are you gonna make any of the Manzy races at the end of the year?

I would agree to avoid the grey narket dealer. BH Photo and Adorama are both reputable dealers I would recommend.
You will not make a mistake with either Nikon or Canon. If everyting else is equal, I would get the camera withe the latest release date. I'm not sure about Canon's new offerings but Nikon's 300D and D3(pricey at around $5K) will be available in November.

I bought numerous bodies and lenses plus a couple of Normans from KEH Camera in Atlanta, GA and found them to have the best 'used' equipment I'd ever seen. They have an online site you can view things at as well, good luck. Take It Easy.....

No Manzy for me for the rest of the year. Perris, Tulare(3), and Vegas are the only tracks I have left for the year.
I agree with others about B&H Photo. I have been getting stuff there for over 10 years. Never had a problem.

Oh yea...I spent a couple thousand bucks on a vacation there too!
So my son has a football Saturday, put the battery in the charger Friday night, had several friends over that evening...cigars, red wine, fire pit...woke up late grabbed the camera/bag, took my son to his game and poof...
I left the battery pack on the charger. No problemo sez I, the wife's still at home. So I call her, and she brings me the battery to an Olympus 310 we have...we're both retarded.
