The driver entries are starting to come in for the November Sprint Shootout - and one driver entered is coming from as far away as Indiana!
:O
This race could definitely be the start of something big for Cowtown fans and drivers!
The NSS will also be host to the Short Track Shootout (visit www.darinshort.com/shootout.html for all of the details) to determine the top overall driver in the STN & NSS.
And don't forget, for a limited time, you can purchase a 2-day grandstand pass to this event for just $25. Go to www.CowtownSpeedway.com then click on 'tickets' for more info.

Time is running out to take advantage of the 2-day passes that are available for the 11/9-11/10 November Sprint Shootout & Short Track Shootout. (For more event info and tickets, visit www.CowtownSpeedway.com .)
Online pre-entry with your credit/debit card also ends this weekend for sprint cars. You can still register at the track with no additional cost, but a lot of people seem to like paying by credit card.
There are now paid entries received from as far away as Sioux Falls and Indy. So there should be a solid field of diversified drivers from throughout the country in attendance.
Plus, the WoO is off, so it's possible that a few of those drivers may drop in unannounced.
And next weekend is now starting to come into the 10-day forecast. Not that you can totally trust weather forecasts 10 days out; but it does show a continued pleasant and dry trend at the moment:
Thu Nov 8 Sunny 66°/50° 20% precip
Fri Nov 9 Sunny 69°/57° 20% precip
At least they're not saying 45 degrees with light mist like last Thursday at the STN - I'm still froggy from being out in that all day and night!

Two day advance grandstand passes are available at www.CowtownSpeedway.com for just $25 through Sunday.
That's $10 off the race day pricing, plus you'll be entitled to purchase up to (2) pieces of Cowtown Speedway apparel at $5 off each!
AND there WILL be a November Sprint Shootout event t-shirt. They will be for sale only at the track (we'll have a picture of the artwork soon), and then after that on the track website.
You can also pre-register online using your credit card (no added fee) through Tuesday for all 4 race divisions. It also helps to guarantee getting your car number before others might.

The sprint field at Cowtown is really shaping up to produce a Texas sized barnburner tonight/tomorrow:
-The R19 of Minnesota's Scott Winter is headed down. He gets my 2006 'Wheelie of the STN' award and is always fun to watch.
- Topeka's Chad Morgan (7c), turned a lot of heads at this year's STN and should be a strong runner.
-WoO top-20 point driver sam15.com will be on hand to rival local hot shoes, Kevin Ramey, George White, Claude Estes, Kathryne Minter and Travis Rilat.
-Lincoln Nebraska's Don Droud Jr. lit up the 410 ranks last year with his stellar performances at the Knoxville Nationals and the Ultimate Challenge at Oskaloosa.
-Huset's Speedway's 410 top-runner, Micah Schliemann (Hartford, SD) will take on Cowtown's highbanks for the first time; and will be sure to quickly adapt.
-Fellow Northerner, youngster Jack Dover (NE), will light up the crowd with his agressive, gutsy moves. Jack picked up several wins and top finishes this year, including at Knoxville.
There are many, many more drivers - and surprises - headed to Cowtown for the November Sprint Shootout tonight. The weather is dry and in the 80's this weekend, so don't miss out on all of the action!

11/10 November Sprint Shootout update:They should be posting offical results soon, but the top six locked in the sprint cars are: George White (TX) & Don Droud Jr. (NE) winning the twin A-qualifiers, Coby Barksdale (OK) & Kevin Ramey finished 2nd, and Trey Robb (OK) and Eric Baldaccini (TX) got the final transfers.
A few other noteables, Nebraska's Jack Dover and South Dakota's Micah Schliemann will start on the pole of the twin-B features tonight with the sam15.com car starting outside front row of the 1st B.
Regarding Chris ( ) Morgan, he was running very strong in his heat and broke (rear end?) late in the race. He started at the tail of his A-qualifier and I think ran around 7th or so.
Minnesota's Scott Winters won his heat race, broke a steering box and then battled an ill handling car to finish around 7th in his A-qualifier.
In the modifieds Geo was running 3rd coming down for the white flag when leader Clyde Dunn apparently broke and spun into the infield; giving the lead temporarily to Oklahoma's Shawn Brassfield and Geo passed him for the win.
I don't have results for the other modified A; or the other classes at this point. But there were around 165 cars in the pits; with more slated to come to tag the B's tonight - based on phone calls received.
11/10 Short Track Shootout update:
After tonight's November Sprint Shootout, overall points will be tabulated to come up with the 4 top sprint cars from both the NSS and the Short Track Nationals that will go to the Short Track Shootout ( www.darinshort.com/shootout.html ).
Those 4 cars will go into the 6-lap Short Track Shootout which pays $1000, $500, $300 and $200 to start. Plus the winner will receive a special marble and porcelane award from DarinShort.com.
Drivers that did not participate in the Short Track Nationals are not eligible for points in the Short Track Shootout.
If a driver shows tonight only that was also at the STN, their name will be added to the points list based on the points they received at the STN.
Here are the points going into tonight's NSS championship:
Car: Driver: STN Points: 15h Sam Hafertepe (Sunnyvale, TX) 13 29 Travis Rilat (Forney, TX) 10 1x Don Droud, Jr. (Lincoln, NE) 1 R19 Scott Winters (Butterfield, MN) 1 7m Kevin Ramey (Fort Worth, TX) 1 7c Chris Morgan (Topeka, KS) 1 74e Claud Estes (Godley, TX) 1 25 Gary Taylor (Sapulpa, OK) 1 b4 Eric Baldaccini (Keller, TX) 1 53 Jack Dover (Springfield, NE) 1 95 Matt Covington (Glenpool, OK) 1 69h Larry Howery (Hearne, TX) 1
Points from the NSS tonight are as follows:
-A feature non-qualifiers will each receive 1 point to their STN point total.
-A feature finishing points tonight add: 1st 25 points, 2nd 23, 3rd 21, 4th 19, 5th 17, 6th 15, 7th 14, 8th 13, 9th 12, 10th 11, 11th 10, 12th 9, 13th 8, 14th 7, 15th 6, 16th 5, 17th 4, 18th 3, 19th to last 2 points each.
-The top four drivers in compiled points will make up the field for the Short Track Shootout. The race will take place one race after the NSS feature.

It was neat that Kevin Ramey won the race - since the weekend was sponsored by Kevin's sponsor - Commercial Music. Sam Hafertepe, Jr. came from 9th to 2nd encountering some fearsome battles along the way. It's always fun watching Sam run the cushion. Next was Don Droud Jr., Trey Robb, George White, Matt Covington, Travis Rilat from 12th starting , Scott Winters and Eric Baldacinni. Jack Dover was looking good until he spun - getting over the cushion.
They took the top 4 from the accumulated points from the Short Track Nationals and the November Sprint Shootout for a special 6 lap dash. Sam Hafertepe, Jr. won the $1,000 for those 6 laps followed by Travis Rilat, Don Droud, Jr. and Kevin Ramey, who pulled into the pits on the last lap as he had to get into his modified for the next race.
Over-all it was a great weekend of racing. The weather couldn't have been much better (a little less wind would have been nice) but highs in the lower 80's and lows in the middle 60's in Nov. is great. For the initial running of this race - and thrown together at relatively the last minute - it was quite successful I would say. Hopefully it will grow into another Short Track Nationals.

Wild Cowtown 'Shootout' Closes Out '07 Season, Sure To Keep Fans Buzzing All Winter Long
11/11/07, Rockwall, TX.
What will go down as arguably one of the wildest nights of racing action in Cowtown Speedway history; two sprint car drivers left the ¼ mile hi-banked speed plant with $5,000 in their pockets, fans witnessed an authentic 'Australian Expression Session' sprint car exhibition (which can best be described by clicking this link: http://youtube.com/watch?v=bC5VTA7ctMU ), and a slugfest in the modified feature race which resulted in over 20 lead changes.
Track promoter, Bo Rawdon, had the track surface on 'full-tilt' for feature action, with three and four lanes of racing grooves developing, allowing drivers to quickly advance positions on the racetrack.
In the November Sprint Shootout (NSS), Kevin Ramey (TX) lined up in third position and raced past front row starters George White (TX) and Don Droud Jr. (NE) to pick up the 35-lap November Sprint Shootout championship. Fifth row starter Sam Hafertepe Jr. negotiated through lap traffic and competitors to nearly catching Ramey at the finish, winding up in second. Don Droud Jr., on his first trip to Cowtown Speedway, picked up $3,000 for his strong third place run, while Ramey took home $5,000 and Hafertepe collecting $4,000.
Another strong run in the sprint feature came from Minnesota's Scott Winters. After getting crossed up on the initial start, relegating him to 20th on the restart, he clawed his way back to 8th by race end.
Drivers including Trey Robb (OK), George White (TX), Travis Rilat (TX), Gary Taylor (OK), Micah Schliemann (SD), Jack Dover (NE), Chris Morgan (KS), Claud Estes (TX), Eric Baldaccini (TX) and Matt Covington (OK) kept fans on the edges of their seats with lots of position swapping and side-by-side action all night long, as did the rest of the field.
After the NSS, overall points were tallied from the finishing positions of I-30 Speedway'sShort Track Nationals (STN) and the NSS and the top four went to the Short Track Shootout (STS). This 4-car, 6-lap event carried a $2,000 purse, with paid $1,000 to the winner and $500, $300, $200 to the balance of the field. The winner also received a marble-based, porcelain helmet topped award from Darin Short of DarinShort.com. (Event marketing agent for the STN, COMP Cams Challenge, NSS & STS.)
Top point getter from both the STN & NSS was the sam15.com car of Sam Hafertepe, Jr. NSS winner, Kevin Ramey received the second highest point total, along with Travis Rilat and Don Droud, Jr. filling out the field.
On the parade lap, the four drivers were taunted by Darin Short on the front stretch with $2000 in 100's being waved as they split him on the front stretch taking the 'one to go' signal.
On the start, Ramey and Hafertepe had a drag race into corner one with Hafertepe taking the edge going down the backstretch. Third place starter Travis Rilat would slip by Ramey, as would Droud; but at the end the sam15.com car of Hafertepe would reign supreme. Sam not only picked up the extra $1000, but receives the title of Short Track Shootout champion, which is a real feat for any sprint car driver.
And the action didn't stop there. After taking the checkered flag, Hafertepe drove his car around the infield go-kart track, selected a spot, and began a dizzying array of head-snapping donuts erupting in a dirt cloud that enveloped half of the infield – much to the delight of the screaming crowd. Australians would have been proud of his exact replication of what is known in the sprint car world of 'Expression Session.'
An exclusive title sponsor opportunity is available for the 2008 Short Track Shootout to the first company who signs on. Interested sponsors are urged to contact Darin at [email protected] for more information. There is no administrative cost for the promotion and 100% of the sponsor money raised will go directly to the driver purse; as in 2007. And our goal is to obtain an $8,000 sponsor; so the 2008 event will carry a whopping $10,000 Short Track Shootout purse.
Switching wings for doors, later in the night was the 50-lap, 24-car modified feature. The racing groove could best be described as 'anywhere between the infield tires and the outside walls,' resulting in a four and sometimes five car battle for the lead that didn't end until the checkered flag came out. George White, who had time to get 'reloaded' from his 5th place finish in the NSS, came out the big winner.
Complete results and pictures of all the weekend's action including the winged mini-sprints, limited modifieds and street stocks will be published soon at the track website, www.CowtownSpeedway.com.
If you'd like to relive some of last night's action, or if you were unable to attend, several video clips of last night's action are currently being published and can be viewed at www.darinshort.com/race.html (scroll down to the 'Shootout' link).
Special thanks to all of the out of town teams and fans that traveled to Cowtown, many for their first time and we're already looking forward to next season, which kicks off in February.

That drive by Sam Hafertepe was quite impressive from near the back to finish 2nd. The racing was as good as usual as with every trip to Cowtown Speedway.
