Keep the rain dates exactly how they are. The schedule in Central Pa is already full enough. The last thing we need to do is start using every Sunday and some mid week days as rain dates. If you wanna see fans and teams get burned out, start doing that. The way it is is fine. The bigger races usually get made up if at all possible. If a regular Friday or Saturday show gets rained out, just cancel the damn thing and move on to next week.

Does not matter what we think, we don't race, own a car or own or promote a track. So what right do we have giving our 2 cents about rain outs.
These men and woman who race have lives and plans outside of racing. What if a driver has somthing more important than racing going on Sunday, racing rains out Sat night, now he has to cancel his Sunday plans so he can race because "The fans don't like rain outs and Robert thinks we should use Sunday as a make day"

Hmmm. Ok. I was going to say rainout dates are not a good idea--but we don't agree on the reason. I witnessed the Sunday night rainout dates for years at my (now defunct) local track. Crowd size was 1/2 but car counts were actually up slightly. From what I was told, the gate dollars did not support the makeup date idea and it was eventually scrapped. So, your idea that the car owners/drivers wouldn't like it and the fans don't have a say, I witnessed the exact opposite. The drivers wanted to race and the fans didn't make it work.
So, we agree on the final answer--just not the reasoning behind it.

I guess it all depends on the situation but your absolutely correct, can't have one without the other.

The reason car counts may have been up was that there probably were not 3-5 other tracks competing for cars in that area on sunday night like they were the week before. Also if the other tracks got rained our on saturday night, a lot of those guys want to get a race in somewhere that week.
Sunday nights are tough even when they are scheduled.
My opinions, blast away!

By the way StaggerLee , its not about me , its what's good for drivers to make money to cover there expenses . But its good to get fans there money's worth if it works out , especially if your far away from home for example and the track doesn't reschedule the make up when they could . By the way it happens all the time where tracks in Florida for example don't re-schedule a rained out race .

Let's not be fooled. Rain dates aren't a chance for the "drivers to make money to cover their (not there) expenses". Least expensive thing to do would always be to stay home. On a regular show, only the winner is "covering" expenses, maybe. If a team shows up for a rain date, it's because they want to race, plain and simple. Now the promoter's expenses, different story.

Die hards may attend a rain date on a Sunday but casual fans probably have other plans. Back when the track I attended ran on Sunday when Saturday was rained out the crowds were always much smaller than a regular Saturday night crowd.
Factor in the promoters needing to spend more to get the track ready again and it would most likely be a money loser. If promoters made money racing Sunday when a regular show was rained out on Saturday they would already be doing it.

Trying to run anything but a big special on a week night is just asking to lose money.

There's no way in hell that it would work for anyone involved if every track in Central Pa started trying to make up as many races as they can. There's already a few too many races here to begin with. Could you imagine if there were make up races going on every Sunday with a bunch of races being run mid week? It would be an absolute clusterfuck and I'd be willing to bet that all the tracks would lose a ton of money because the fan support sure as hell wouldn't be there and I'll bet car counts would begin to suffer as well. It just isn't a good idea to do it any other way than what they do now. Like I said before, every track makes as valiant of an effort as they can to make up the big races when they rain out and they're usually successful at doing so.

That was absolutely the reason. I was just pointing out that cars did not shy away and we picked up those that normally would be at another track on Saturday night. However, the fans did not show up to support. That is what inevitably killed it--not the lack of cars.
