This is still one of the biggest bone-head statements made by sprint car fans.

1.  ANYONE at a sprint car track is a sprint car fan or they wouldn't be there--regardless of what other interests they have outside of the sprint car race.  And, as previously mentioned, you need butts in seats to pay these purses that everyone keeps whining are too small because there are no butts in the seats.  (Kinda goes in a circle doesn't it?)

2.  "Most of them have no grasp on dirt track etiquette"  Can you please site your sources for this?  Every year, I attend sprint car races.  Every year a large group of people are still standing after 1 or 2 laps are completed.  And every year, about 200 people are yelling pissed when they don't sit right away.  I see very few nascar shirts amongst these standers.  I see 10:1 ratio of sprint car shirts vs. nascar shirts.  Can you please (and anyone else that wants to chime in) tell me where you have made this correlation between standing race fans and Nascar?  I have made it a point to observe this at sprint car, dirt late model races, and pavement races and have seen no difference in the way the crowd reacts to any situation.  I think you want to be pissed, you see one or two guys with a Jimmie Johnson shirt on, and automatically that becomes the cannon fodder.

3. "they seem to believe you have to stand all of the time"--Please site your sources--other than the couple of fans you observed in point 2

4.  "a large majority of them just like NASCAR..."--stop yourself--if they just like NASCAR, why are they at a sprint car race?  (I'll give you a hint--they don't just like NASCAR)  "and enjoy nothing about grass roots dirt racing"---I enjoy nothing about Bed Bath and Beyond and Yankee Candle so I don't go into those places.  I am assuming if they didn't enjoy grass roots racing..............THEY WOULDN'T BE THERE!

Please see one of my earlier posts about how die-hard fans are going to help the sport die hard.  You are a perfect example.  I would assume you hate NASCAR?  Do you go?  I would bet not.  Why would you assume anyone attending your precious sprint car racew would hate grass roots racing?

Dumb

Whatever, if my post is dumb, than you're a freaking MORON.

I've been to all sorts of races & MANY NASCAR races. I love how "shirts" are your proof.

List.......please. I'll take "live" experiences over you siting of sources.

I've been to KC several years & camped at Lakeside & been at the Cup track during the day.

NASCAR is amusing but compared to dirt racing, it's VERY boring. That's my opinon as was my post.

You seem to be one of these people that's in favor of pushing not needed changes to get more people to come.

See NASCAR today as an ill-faited example of your logic. Stands that used to be full of people are now covered with promotional banners because they chased away all their old skool fans.

Add that it's obvious you're a BIG Nascar fan by the way you call my(?) sprint car races "precious".

You're the one loving Nascar on a sprint car forum.

Now that's DUMB. wink

Hmmm.  You love how "shirts" are my proof, eh?  Do you walk through the grandstands handing out surveys for each standing fan and have them check their favorite form of racing so you can single them out?  Or, did you make a broad generalization by assuming that only Nascar fans are the ones that stand during a race?  I am going to go with option B.

"Live" experiences are about the only experiences that I have had at sprint car races in the stands--unless I has some sort of out-of-body experience I am not sure of.  So, I've experienced all of the same things as you--and there is no way for me to say what kind of fans like to stand up and what kind don't.  That is just a stupid statement with no backing.  So, either explain to me how you know they are Nascar fans--and not just sprint car fans that like to stand.  Or, don't make that claim anymore.  Site the source for your knowledge.

You are wrong--I don't push for any changes.  I am the guy who believes that necessity is the mother of all invention and changes come because they need to come for one reason or another.  I don't whine like a little baby everytime someone messes with qualifying, fuel tank size, dash inverts, feature lengths,............list goes on and on.  I go with the flow--why?  Because I love being at the track, sun going down, cold drink in my hand, watching the cars roll onto the track.  I don't sit there with a scowl on my face cause someone is wearing a Denny Hamlin shirt and "he can't be here cause he ain't as big a fan as me and he'll probably stand up" blah blah blah

Your original post attacking everyone as standing being a Nascar fan is ridiculous.  You smashed Nascar fans, then claimed to be one, then said you don't like it, then........................Are you one of the Nascar fans that stands up during the races because you like Nascar?  I haven't been to (and don't plan on going to another) Nascar race in 15 years.  (See the rest of my previous post)   I hardly qualify as a Nascar lover.

As far as your sprint car races being precious?  That is my way of telling you that I am a huge sprint car fan and I don't view sprint car races as some exclusive club where only die-hard sprint car fans can come.  I welcome all who want to attend and have invited and converted many a Nascar fan into a sprint car fan!

Long story short, sprint car fans stand-even if they hate Nascar.  And, Nascar fans are allowed to attend both stock car races and sprint car races and still consider themselves sprint car fans.

PLEASE, keep NASCRAP away from sprint car and midget racing. This sport has done just fine without them and will continue to do fine without them.

Listen pal, this is a message board and they are for OPINIONS. You called mine dumb. I didn't attack anyone and I've been to several weekend events that have tried your idea on bringing over the NASCAR fans to the local dirt track.

It's not some bright, new idea. I'd say there are more than a few that have my opinion on it.

I could careless who attends a race, ALL are welcome, but from what I've witnessed on my own, there's a broad segment of Nascar fans that could careless about dirt racing in general.

Also anyone who stands & blocks the views of others at a dirt race is a JACK-HOLE. Luckily usually they get sorted out right away by others who have the same opinion as me.

Sorry you didn't like my original post, than again I still believe in the old saying "If ain't broke, don't fix it".

Of course in the current liberal mindset, many think they can fix anything and everything with some bright idea. btw, NOT labeling you anything. Just thought I'd nip that in the butt before you attack me again.

Glad to know your mb opinons are the only one's that matter. wink

Wow, a thread that starts talking about corporate sponsorship of the Nationals and how well Kendra is doing as a marketing person and it turns into this.   The last seven or eight posts have little to do with the topic and all name calling.   Aren't internet forums wonderful........

Amen, Dryslick Willie.

How awesome is this to get a new sponsor, not involved in sprint car racing or dirt racing, that I know of now a title sponsor of the Nationals.

I think this is just the beginning of good things to happen to Knoxville.

If you listen to winged nation kendra mentioned that the Nascar garage has a lot of respect for the sprint car community. Even if those in Nascar are involved, Larson, Tony, Kahne... so what, that's more cars, drivers, funding on the tour and more exposure and sponsorship that trickles down to sprints.

Great job Kendra!

Right on! How anyone can find negativity in a nationally recognized company getting involved with the Nationals and sprint car racing is beyond me. I think the naysayers are digging pretty deep to find a flaw with this deal. I don't know a lot about the base customer of the company, but I would think tha largest segment of customers are a younger crowd. If that is so, and this move by Kendra can begin to bring in additional young people to sprint car racing and the Nationals that's a good thing. If it brings onboard additional NASCAR fans, great. More seats sold means growth and security for the sport. Regardless of the results, the addition of a high power sponsor means money. A necessary fundamental need for a huge event like the Nationals, and a high spectator draw like sprint car and dirt racing in general.

Hey, sorry. Seriously.

But I will not be insulted or called "dumb" because I have my own opionion on something. Add that I was not bashing on any "new" sponsors.

Wouldn't even have responded if i wasn't the victim of some message board bullying.

Debating is one thing, but insults and labeling are another. If I were face to face with someone and they called me dumb and had no idea who I was or had ever met me, well as with most people I believe.........there WOULD be an issue.

do not remember what year, but free packets of chewing tobacco.  I tried it, got dizzy and sick feeling, never again.  This was at about 1990 Nationals.

I'm sorry Dryslick but the comments from SDDTRF67 strike a nerve with me.

To be clear, I would most likely not attend the Nascar event in Newton if there were a double weekend with the Nationals.  So lets get the idea that I am a Nascar lover out of the way right now.

My comments were directed at the poisonous first post where SDDTRF67 presents an attitude that I have heard from way too many people over the last 10 years.  They want all sprint car fans to band together, shut the gates and not let any 'outsiders' in.  Nascar fans that show up at a sprint car race are race fans, paying fans, and no more annoying than some of the 'sprint car only' fans that I have met or witnessed in the stands.  I get sick of the 'holier than thou' attitude some exhibit on this site and in the stands towards what they deem as outsiders.

The 'if it ain't broken don't fix it' attitude is a perfect business model for any company or organization that doesn't plan on being around 5 years from now.  Change or Die should be every business' motto.

Nice to see a company with no ties to teams or involved in the sport already becoming title sponsor of the Nationals.  We need to see more of this IMO.

The new sponsor coming to Knoxville is great , great job by Knoxville , the company knows that sprint car fans are more passionate and loyal then NASCAR fans , that was another reason they came on board .

You conveniently left out "anyone who stands & blocks the views of others at a dirt race is a..........****-****" (Which they are, a selfish, ignorant one at that)

It appears as though you would side with the people who are standing(minority) and blocking the view of the MAJORITY of fans sitting?

Unfortunatley & sadly there's a growing segment in society that would share your view on it. frown

Is that so??

I guess the brass at 5 Hour Energy missed that memo before they signed that huge check to sponsor H. Scott Motorsports/Clint Bowyer to have 5 Hour Energy plasterd all over his NASCAR Sprint Cup cars and haulers....

No they didn't miss it  , thats why originally they went NASCAR but now they can see dirt racing is gaining more fans ,because the racing is better on all forms of dirt racing and attendance is dropping at NASCAR events for many reasons .

It's your story spin it however you like.... The numbers don't lie.

11.4 million viewers for Daytona, 6.8 million viewers for Atlanta, 7.2 million viewers for Las Vegas, 6.6 million viewers for Phoenix, 6.8 million viewers for Auto Club, 4.2 million viewers for Martinsville, 4.3 million vewers for Texas, 5.5 million viewers for Bristol, 4.7 million viewers for Richmond, 6.7 million viewers for Talladega, 3.1 million viewers for Kansas. Add in all the radio and internet viewers and listeners and people at the race how can you even think of comparing dirt track racing to NASCAR when it comes to attendance and exposure for sponsors??

To say attendance, car counts, and car owners/drivers are not dropping in alarming numbers in dirt track racing as a whole is just crazy talk and wishful thinking.
