Becoming deaf is like being lost in a city where people all around you that speak a different language. I know that it is hard to imagine life without hearing anything. I was born hearing but when I was three year old, my mom was told by the doctor that I had a bilateral sensorineural hearing loss. It is a hearing lost in both ears that were the result of low hair cells of the spiral organ. So I have a moderate hearing loss. The hearing device like hearing aids is what helped me to hear everyday. Life given to me was a blessing; I was raised and graduated at St. Mary's School for the Deaf. The school gave me a wonderful speech class and a wonderful education and taught me sign languages. Throughout my schooling there, I took many tests and practiced my hearing and speaking. Now, I am able to speak well and hear some. I can hear the phone, and speak through it, and I can understand what the person saying in conversations. I do lip reading, and I sign. I also struggle in hearing what a loudspeaker is saying because they sound like statics to me. Other struggles are that some people are not willing to communicate with me, just because I'm deaf.
