For Colbert’s part, he was mostly tactful when addressing the members of Tinariwen, asking honest questions about their history in Mali and experience in Libya under Gaddafi’s rule. He did advise the members, two of whom wore tagelmust veils common in Tuareg culture, not to go through airport security dressed like that when departing the U.S. today — he added to the translator, “You don’t have to translate that one.”Tinariwen then teamed up with Adebimpe and Malone to perform “Tenere Taqqim Tossam” for the live broadcast of The Colbert Report.
Pitchfork points out the announcement came from an MTV News Canada interview, where Mastodon bassist Troy Sanders said the group would work with Feist on a split 7” single for next year’s Record Store Day. Former Smiths frontman Morrissey appeared on Conan last night, performing to promote his tour dates in U.S. and Mexico, Pitchfork pointed out.Morrissey performed a new song titled “People Are the Same Everywhere,” which was previously performed on BBC Radio 2.
Last week we reported on former Depeche Mode members Martin Gore and Vince Clarke reuniting for a new musical project called VCMG. Earlier today, Mute, who’ll be releasing the duo’s first EP EP 1/Spock, posted their debut single “Spock” to the label’s Soundcloud.
Holding true to the announcement that the venture was “a techno project,” the single is definitely a club piece, but one that leans heavily on Depeche Mode’s industrial and darkwave roots. The debut EP will be officially released on Dec. 13, while the group’s first full length is due out sometime next spring.
