One of the big challenges that I think design schools have is that when they're teaching the history of fashion, Black fashion history is often left out. Or I should say, African Americans in fashion are often left out of that conversation, and there's so many amazing stories to be taught and told, whether that's Abraham Lincoln's wife's designer, who was a Black woman and actually bought her freedom through design, or Gordon Henderson, who had one of the first exclusive contracts at Saks Fifth Avenue.

Or, as Laura admits, under your desk. "My shoes are in a big pile in our studio," she says. The designers on the roster are some of fashion's most progressive new talents. It looks like we're going to be wearing cloth face masks for a while, which is all the more reason to find one that you like.

One example is their recognition of Instagram as an essential (and cost-effective) marketing tool, allowing them to establish a dialogue with their clients that has only deepened during lockdown. And, indeed, as the crowd gathered afterward at the Fleur Room's dazzling rooftop bar (which, ironically, featured a view of the brightly lit H&M logo off in the distance)-drinking specialty cocktails and dining on sliders, tuna tartare, and eggplant crostini-the film was very much the topic of conversation, particularly its somewhat shocking ending.

And that's not to make light of this very serious situation, and the people working very hard to stop it. You know, there's so much history that gets totally left out when it comes to African Americans in fashion. It's especially an issue with footwear. But people are still looking for masks they don't have to make themselves.
