SAUK RAPIDS, Minn. — May 21, 2015 — The
World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series Presented by Marthaler Chevrolet of
Glenwood will visit Granite City Speedway in Sauk Rapids for the first
time ever on Tuesday, June 16. “The Greatest Show on Dirt” features the
best sprint car drivers in the world racing wheel-to-wheel in
900-horsepower winged sprint cars. The series will compete nearly 90
times this season at 59 tracks in 23 states and three Canadian
provinces, making it the most grueling schedule in any form of
motorsports.
Donny
Schatz, is the six-time and defending series champion, and drives for
Tony Stewart Racing. Schatz, who has won 10 races thus far in 2015,
hails from North Dakota, and currently leads the series standings over
Shane Stewart. Calling Oklahoma home, Stewart, drives for a team
co-owned by NASCAR rising star Kyle Larson. Stewart has a trio of wins
this season, which is second only to Schatz.
Brad
Sweet and Daryn Pittman, the 2013 series titlist, both drive for Kasey
Kahne Racing, which is based in the Charlotte, North Carolina area.
Sweet is currently third in points, while Pittman is seventh, after
missing a couple of races last month, following an accident in
California, in which he suffered a broken collarbone that required
surgery, as well cracked ribs. Pittman has won three times this season.
Other
contenders competing full-time with the World of Outlaws in 2015
include veteran driver Paul McMahan, who has a pair of wins and is
currently fourth in points. Joey Saldana, who is one of the longest
tenured drivers with the series, drives for the Motter Motorsports team,
which is based in Minnesota. Saldana is currently fifth in points as he
chases his first win of the season.
A
pair of Australian drivers are racing with the series this season, with
veteran Kerry Madsen currently sixth in points. Young Aussie, Jamie
Veal, is filling in for the injured Jason Johnson.
Jason
Sides, a long-time racer is currently seventh in the series standings
and has been one of the most consistent drivers thus far in 2015, as he
looks to pick up his first checkered flag. Kraig Kinser, a
third-generation driver is on the circuit again this year, piloting a
car owned by his father Steve, the 20-time World of Outlaws champion.
Kraig Kinser is a past World of Outlaws winner in Minnesota, picking up a
victory in 2008 in the state.
One
of the young guns of the sport, David Gravel, recently hooked up with
the Destiny Motorsports team to pilot their No. 7 machine. Gravel is
also a past winner with the series in Minnesota.
Logan
Schuchart and Jacob Allen, a pair of teammates for Shark Racing from
Pennsylvania, round out the full-time contingent on the road with the
World of Outlaws drivers this season. The team is owned by Hall of Famer
Bobby Allen, one of the original Outlaws.
Among
the invaders expected to challenge the Outlaws at Granite City Speedway
is Brian Brown, a former Knoxville Raceway track champion, who won with
the World of Outlaws out west earlier this season.
