Bumper to Bumper IRA Sprints Head to The Zone to Complete “Need for Speed Week”!

By Jeffrey Sachse August 22, 2012; McHenry, IL – The stars of the Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprint Series will head to Oshkosh Speedzone Raceway located in Oshkosh, Wisconsin Friday evening August 24. The program will wrap up the raceway’s “Need for Speed” week which featured some of the fastest cars on dirt. However it will be the Friday Night program and the appearance of the 900 horsepower winged outlaw sprints that will test the true limits of velocity at the third-mile clay oval known as “The Zone”. Simply put, the machines are THE fastest racing machines on dirt. With an extremely wide racing surface and sweeping turns the Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprints have approached 120 mph when entering the corners with little need to even lift off the throttle when the track has some tack to its racing surface. The last event held at “The Zone” would see several cars running into the 13 second bracket though the raceway is capable of allowing the 410 c.i. engines to push the lightweight machines into the sub 12 second category. Heading up the list of contenders for victory will be four-time and defending series champion Bill Balog who captured his 12th victory of the season this past Sunday evening putting his #17b machine in the winner’s circle at LaSalle Speedway. Balog, the current series point leader is also the most recent winner in sprint car action at “The Zone” taking top honors this past June. Mike Kertscher will also be in attendance in his familiar #80k machine. Kertscher has been a chief rival of Balog at the Oshkosh track, often topping the qualifying charts and in the most recent event he seemingly had the speed to win the contest but a flat tire in the closing laps negated his hopes of a checkered flag. The familiar #02 of Mike Reinke should also be considered among the favorites to pull off a victory. Favoring high speed tracks Reinke has proven to be among the most consistent racers on the tour this season, avoiding dnf’s while and still making his way to the podium by a races end. His solid performances have kept him in the title chase. He currently trails Balog by 89 points with eight races left on the 2012 schedule. For Reinke to catch Balog now is the time to turn those strong runs into victories. Perennial front runner Scott Neitzel will be looking for his first victory of 2012. With several strong runs under his belt this season The Zone could be the place where Neitzel seals the deal and earns his first feature checkered of 2012. Other standout performers that should be in attendance include young charger Phillip Mock. Mock recently scored his first podium run of 2012 at an IRA event at Wilmot Raceway. Likewise Bill Wirth has seen some solid success of late. The popular low-budget racer was in the thick of the battle for the win this past weekend at Wilmot Raceway and had led much of a main event earlier in the year at Beaver Dam Raceway. Other top IRA stars, Russel Borland, Kris Spitz, cousins Scott and Dave Uttech, Brandon Thone and top rookie competitor Robbie Pribnow should be on hand. In addition to the Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprints, three of the tracks fendered divisions will be part of the program. The Miller Lite Grand Nationals and Total Power Sales Street Stocks feature close point battles and the evening will also have an appearance by the popular entry level division, the 4 cylinder Lynn’s Service Center Dirt Devils. Racing action is set to get underway at 7:00pm. At the gate ticket prices are $20 for adults, students ages 11-15 are admitted for $10 and children 10 and under are admitted FREE with an adult. Oshkosh Speedzone Raceway is a 1/3 mile semi-banked clay oval located at the Sunnyview Expo Center which resides near the intersection of Highways 76 and County Trunk Y in Oshkosh.
