Jason Meyers,
Elite Racing, Runner-up at Calistoga, Second on Crane Cams Dash Winner List
First Weekend Back Home Ends on Good
Note at 'Stoga
CLOVIS,
Calif. (September 3, 2007) –Jason Meyers
and the Elite Racing, Primerica Financial, Elite Landscaping, GLR Investments,
Team Worldwide, Carbon Raptor DLC, Ridgeline Framing Maxim Chassis with Garrett
Racing Engines World of Outlaws (WoO) sprint car team dealt with a mechanical
failure on the opening night of the traditional Harvest Classic at Calistoga
Speedway and bounced back to finish second on the final night of the two-day
event.
SOLID RUN AT GRAY'S HARBOR – MOVED TO FOURTH IN
POINTS
Laying down a blistering fast lap during WoO Time
Trials of 11.998 seconds around the high-banked 3/8 mile track, Meyers was
excited about the qualifying finish, but quickly realized that it wasn't fast
enough to catch the quick-time lap laid down by Joey Saldana.
Starting fourth in his heat race, Meyers would
finish second, then drawing the number six pill for the Crane Cams Dash. Finishing third in the dash would line him up
behind Craig Dollansky and eventual winner, Shane Stewart.
Running in the top-five for the majority of the
race, Meyers slipped back to seventh late in the event, then using a late-race
charge to finish fifth.
"Tonight's run put me in fourth in the points
standings, which we needed," said Meyers.
"Hopefully going into Calistoga we can maintain the position in points."
DRIVING SOUTH TO CALISTOGA – GETTING CLOSER TO
HOME
Arriving at Calistoga Speedway, the semi-banked
half-mile track in northern California,
the Elite Racing team had high expectations, especially as they were getting
closer and closer to home. With driver Jason Meyers
originally being from Clovis,
Calif., approximately three and a
half hours from the track, the Harvest Classic has become somewhat of a
tradition for his family, friends and local sponsors to attend.
After qualifying fifteenth, Meyers knew that he
would be behind the eight-ball all evening long. Running fifth in his heat, the Primerica
Financial Maxim would lineup fourteenth in the A-Main event.
"We made it up to eighth and broke a left rear
torsion arm," explained Meyers. "DJ
(Lindsey) and Brian (Bloomfield)
worked hard and got us back out on the track, where we had to start dead last
on the field."
Meyers would battle to an eighteenth place
finish.
"It wasn't the way we wanted to start this
weekend out, but all we can do is fight through it and come back tomorrow
stronger than ever," finished Meyers.
THE HARVEST CLASSIC FINALE
After qualifying thirteenth on the second night
of the Harvest Classic at Calistoga Speedway, Meyers couldn't help but think
the night was going to be a repeat of the previous evening.
Going out and winning his heat race, Meyers began
to pick up a little bit of confidence, which was definitely bolstered when he
drew the "one pill" which would line him up on the pole of the Crane Cams
Dash. Winning the Dash jumped him to
second place on the Crane Cams Dash season win list with seven wins, behind
leader Donny Schatz who has nine dash wins.
Enduring a race-long battle with eventual race
winner Danny Lasoski in the A-Main
event, Meyers had the lead twice, the longest of which was a ten-lap run,
losing the lead for the final time with only six circuits remaining.
"Going green-to-checkers, lapped traffic was the
way that we got the lead and ultimately, the way that we lost the lead," said
Meyers. "We needed this second place
finish tonight, and although it would have been fantastic to get the win, Robyn
(Jason's wife) and I get to drive
home tonight after the races – something we haven't done since May first!"
Meyers would finish the week in fifth place in
the WoO Points standings, a mere one point behind "The King," Steve Kinser.
