Jason Meyers, Elite Racing, No Longer Bridesmaid at Lebanon Valley
CLOVIS,
Calif. (July 22, 2007) – After
having a difficult week in Pennsylvania, World of Outlaws (WoO) driver Jason
Meyers and the Elite Racing, Primerica Financial, Elite Landscaping, GLR
Investments, Team Worldwide, Carbon Raptor, Ridgeline Framing Maxim Chassis
with Garrett Racing Engines power were looking forward to turning things around
in their second of three trips to the state of New York.
After flipping in qualifications on Tuesday at
Lernerville Speedway due to a broken rear axle, Meyers and the Elite Racing
Team were grateful to see the rains come and force the rescheduling of the
event to Wednesday. The rescheduling
caused the World of Outlaws to re-qualify the several teams that had already
taken laps timed by the AMB i.t. scoring system, including Meyers.
Qualifying twenty-eighth, Meyers would start
seventh in his heat and cross the line in the fifth position. By virtue of his qualifying time and heat
race finish, the Primerica Financial car would start twenty-first in the A-Main
event, finishing fifteenth.
Moving on to the Williams Grove Summer Nationals
event, which spans over the course of three days, Meyers knew that he would be
up against possibly the stiffest competition of the entire season.
"We always know coming into the Grove that it's
going to be tough and that these guys are some of the toughest 'local' racers
in the entire country," commented Meyers.
Thursday's event saw Meyers get behind the
proverbial eight-ball in qualifying, and by coming out with a qualifying time
that placed him twenty-fifth on the list, he knew that he would have to work
even harder to salvage the evening.
Starting seventh and finishing fifth in his heat
once again, Meyers beat drivers such as Steve Kinser and Jac Haudenschild to
the line, putting him at the rear of the A-Main event. Finishing sixteenth was not where Meyers
wanted to end the evening, but knew that he had one more night at "The Grove"
for redemption.
"I screwed up in qualifying, and at the Grove,
especially for this event, qualifying is so extremely important," said Meyers.
Keeping that comment in mind, Meyers went out on
Friday and qualified fifteenth, and was leading his heat race when his
driveline broke.
"We were leading and the driveline broke,
essentially welding itself together," noted Meyers. "We barely made it out for the B-Main event
because it was so difficult to change at that point, we didn't even have a
chance to change tires."
Missing the transfer to the A-Main by one spot,
Meyers was not able to use any of his World of Outlaws provisionals due to the
event being a show-up points only event, in preparation for Saturday night's
full-blown World of Outlaws feature event
As Saturday rolled around, the native of Clovis, Calif.,
was sitting in twentieth place in the Summer Nationals points, which were used
in lieu of qualifying to line up the heat race events.
Running seventh in a very stacked heat race
event, Meyers would line up sixth for the B-Main event. Crossing under the checkered flags first, his
finish would give him the seventeenth place starting position for the thirty
lap A-Main event.
"We were good early in the feature, but then the
track took rubber and we just couldn't catch up to it, so we finished twelfth
in the A," said Meyers.
Looking for redemption, Meyers and the Elite
Racing Team left Williams Grove and made the more than five hour trip to
Lebanon Valley Speedway in New York
state. By qualifying ninth, Meyers would
start on the outside pole of his heat race, crossing the finish line
first.
Lining up behind Steve Kinser, Paul McMahan and
Sam Hafertepe, Jr. for the Crane Cams Dash, Meyers would win the event, which
would grant him the pole for the A-Main event.
Starting alongside Kinser, Meyers would jump to an early lead and not
look back.
"I knew that Kinser was behind me, but I never
saw him—he never got a nose under me," commented Meyers. "I hit lapped traffic which was tough to get
through, it took a bit to get past (Tony) Bruce and (Craig) Dollansky, but not
because of anything they were or weren't doing—this track is just difficult to
pass anyone."
