For Immediate Release

CALIFORNIA LIGHTNING SPRINTS AT BAKERSFIELD SPEEDWAY THIS SATURDAY!

(Placentia, CA, March 25, 2014)  The California Lightning Sprint Cars will be making their first of four appearance at “The West’s Fastest 1/3 Mile High Banked Clay Oval,” the Bakersfield Speedway, this Saturday night, March 29th.  Joining the CLS on the card will be the Modifieds, Hobby Stocks and Mini Stocks.  Spectator gates will open at 4:00 pm and the first race will begin at 6:00.

The theme of the first two races of the season for the CLS has been late race heartbreak for first place cars.  At the season opener in El Centro, Alex Grigoreas of Upland led the first 16=laps of the main before being sidelined by a broken chain.  The following week at Perris Auto Speedway, Lomita’s Bobby Michnowicz, who took the El Centro victory after Grigoreas suffered his misfortune, was leading the main when a $2.00 fuse burned up with two laps to go costing him the race and giving the win to Silver Lake’s Jeff Dyer.

Placentia’s Dan Hillberg, who has been racing open wheel cars in Southern California since the 1970’s, goes into Saturday’s race at Bakersfield with a precarious  three-point lead over Dyer in the championship standings.  Hillberg was fourth at El Centro and second at Perris.  In addition to his Perris win, Dyer was second at El Centro.  Third in the point standings and only 10-points behind the leader is Corona’s Steve Limon. The defending CLS champ, Limon has finished third in both of the first two races of the season and was fast qualifier at each event as well.  Michnowicz and San Diego’s Damon Arnett are fourth and fifth in the standings.

Second generation driver Jeremy Queener of Torrance, fresh off a fifth-place finish at Perris in only his second CLS race, is the leading rookie after the first two races.  Cory Hoover of Corona and Corrie Andrews are second and third.

After Saturday at Bakersfield, the CLS will trek to the gorgeous beach side Ventura Raceway on April 5th and return to Bakersfield on April 19th.  Its next appearance at its home track, Perris Auto Speedway, will be on May 3rd.
