2006 Season Recap

By Gary Thomas

Chico’s Stephen Allard was without a ride after parting ways in early July with the sprint car team he’d been driving for since the beginning of the season . Enter car owner Skip Jones and 1m racing.

Jones and the 1m team stepped up to the plate and brought their car out which had literally been sitting in his shop collecting cob webs. Allard and Jones previously had successful stints together in 2002 when the pair chased the Silver Dollar Speedway track championship finishing third in points scoring 4 feature wins and 9 top five finishes, and also piloted the 1m sprinter to 4 consecutive wins in the 1996 season.

This year at the time of the departure from his earlier team, Allard was sitting in the top three of Silver Dollar Speedway points and with Jones’s help, now had the chance to finish off the season at his home track. The Allard/Jones combo ran the final five races of the Silver Dollar Speedway track points season and when all was said and done, the 33 year old driver sat third in points. In addition to the track point races, the team also competed with the Golden State Challenge Series during both night’s of the GSC finale at Silver Dollar Speedway in late July and scored impressive finishes of 3rd and 4th for the weekend. In 2006 Allard and Jones ended up competing in nine overall races together scoring one fast time, three top five finishes and seven top 10's. With the right combination Allard showed just how good of a driver he truly is.

Stephen Allard and Skip Jones Racing are extremely grateful for all the assistance they have received this year and look forward to 2007 and beyond.
