Ok here's where I come from. We moved to Torrance from Indy when I was a baby,Agajanian picked up our garbage for his pig farm and my dad pointed out bean fields where it was said Parnelli rolled Jalopy's just for fun. The new Freeway went right thru the middle of old Carroll speedway and you could see where turns 3 and 4 were years afterward. Moved to Phoenix in 56 and we were still in a racing area, Bryan was hot, Manzy was there and the fairgrounds had shows like below. Being Hoosier's we rooted for Tony but loved Jimmy too. My dad ran back in Indiana, mostly midgets.. I moved back to California in 63, the small block Chevy, along with the Offy was shaking the grandstands and it was wild, great talent mixed with California's enthusiasm, some guys were way over there heads. I left California for Oregon,Wash,in 73 and searched for dirt and sprint cars without wings. Found the dirt at Skagett and Cottage grove but mostly only traditional cars at Portland speedway( Mike Bliss) when it was still paved, " Like fish in a barrel" is what my dad would say about a sprinter on pavement. I followed CRA and USAC as best I could and Shuman was "my guy" because my wonder bread years were in AZ. I made it back to AZ in 85 and was so excited I hit my head coming through the arches at Manzy. Wow!! Leland,Ronnie, and this hard driving sun of gun called the gas man from silver city N.M. that the crowd loved. Eddie Wirth caught my eye the first time I saw him haul it into turn three like a man possessed. Billy boat was a coming and the California guys were having a hard time getting a win on the "big" half mile and a 360 group was being born. Except for a few years in New Mexico where I ran into Rickey Hood in a field of 15 cars driving the 45x and making it look way to easy, I've stayed here and watched SCRA come along and with it a lot of just great drivers from both states. It was Ok for some to go and run with USAC ,they were still "our boy's"....CRA,SCRA,what did it matter,we had the talent and the cars that could run and beat the best from the Midwest and the rivalry was healthy and good for the sport. The car count was great, two nights during the Classic at Manzy to start off the season, full house both nights. The Western was back to traditional cars, the oval nationals were great and then the guest decides to stay. Car counts go down along with the attedance at Manzy. One night, just Sat during the Classic and even the gathering of the clan was being messed up by USAC! I'm so excited about "The Copper" and seeing the big cars on dirt but wishing our guest's would just go home when the party's over.. P.S. look out, a new guest is on the way..

Ha, I type with one finger, thank God for spell check and I said I wouldn't't touch a computer until a few years ago. Most of the time I can't remember my own name, but as you might have guessed I can remember what's important. LOL

The Morales and Bromme Offys were winning at Ascot at least up to 1972.

Oh man,I was only ten years off !! LOL...I'll check 74. I can't believe I was ten years off. I remember In about 84 up in Portland a offy showed up with USAC on the 1/2 mile and you could close your eyes and hear that sweet sound where ever it was on the track. It was not that competitive but everyone was glad to see and hear it..
You know right before I fell asleep last night I thought of Parnelli breaking 150 at the speedway in 62 in a Offy and I felt something was wrong with my post, but I couldn't put my finger on it...Thanks. I can find 74s results but they don't list the engines..
