I once participated in this conversation already. Do they run a sprint Bandit format at the Chili Bowl? I mean with 2 sets of heats?
JD and Old Man Whitworth(that will stick to you like a tick on a mule) say no. James says yes.
The Chili Bowl home page said Wed.-thru-Fri. there will be a full set of Heats, Last Chance Races, QUALIFIERS, B Mains and A Mains. I'm assuming the qualifiers are a 2nd set of heats?
Can someone elaborate????

My understanding is that the Sprint Bandit format WILL be used. That's heat races, then qualifying races based on the heat race results (passing points plus finishing points) then last-chance races and the feature. With the Gong Show tonight, there should be around 71 or 72 cars per night, counting the five that will be added to each of the Wed-Fri shows from tonight's pre-qualifier. Saturday? That will be straight up Alphabet soup, probably starting with something like "M" features. The stated reason for doing it this way is that people who started on the pole of the heats under the old format didn't stand a chance of earning a decent starting position in the main. It also balances that situation where certain drivers always seemed to start on the back row of the last heat, earning LOTs of passing points.

Heat races are scheduled for 6 PM.....better leave work early. On Saturday, they're showing "K" mains at 1:10 PM. Think they ran a bit late on that one last year, but if there are "L" or even "M" mains, you best pack a lunch.

thank you . I finally got it now. They take the top 40 in passing points and put them into A Main qualifiers. The rest go to last chance heat races with the top 2 tagging the back of the A Main qualifiers. Then with the points based on heats and qualifiers they place those 48 (thats what it was tonight) cars in B and A Mains.
