Check out the photo of Kasey Kahne on the main Hoseheads page, down under at Tyrepower. Notice all of the people in the grassy area in the background. I see that there is a fence between the track and them but it doesn't appear to be very tall or stout. Is there something not seen in the photo that offers protection for these folks? Looks really dangerous. I can just picture a car or parts from a car being launched into this area. Can someone that's been there convince me that there is no danger here?

It looks like there is a drop off at the top of the banking and I don't think the people are as close as the photo makes them seem. The concrete might be hidden which would make it as safe or as dangerous as any other track.

The photo has that illusion that Attica Raceway has. If you have ever sat in turn 1 and watched a car go off of turn 3, it looks like they went deep into the pits. But I have personally never seen a car touch the pit wall. I'm sure its happened though.

I was just getting ready to post the same thing. I've seen nose wings, tires, fuel cells and more clear the tall fences at Knoxville.

tyoneon has got it one! TPCR is built inside a former horse trotting track and the track is built up so there is a fall away back to the trotting track and then the concrete wall that the fence sits upon. The people you refer to in that picture would be probably 100 yards or so away from the outside edge of the track. TPCR is probably one of the safest tracks in terms of spectator safety, in Australia due to the fact that they are so far away from the action.

Optical illusion. PCR has plenty of wide open space between the track and the spectators.

For what its worth, the tracks that run sprintcars are probably more safe than many tracks here are.

I was thinking exactly that Andrew.... from a pure safety perspective, some of the tracks here would not be able to have street stocks if they were in OZ let alone 410's
