Elliot was leading the Coca Cola 600 with 2 laps remaining when he pitted during a yellow. Was this a mistake that seemed to cause him to loose a sure win? I understand his crew chief made the call to pit.

I'm looking for ways that your question related to Sprint Car racing so here goes. If Kyle Larson had not been suspended he might have given Chase a run for his money. Ryan Blaney, the talented son of a former World of Outlaws driver finished fourth but moved up to third when JJ was DQ'd. Christopher Bell got a top ten finish.
You have to work some Sprint Car into every post or some of the more outspoken will call you out on it. I hope this helps and they don't scold you for asking a NASCAR question. ;)

PS, I think you are right and Elliot should have stayed out. I've got some pics I took of his father Bill in a dirt Late Model burried in my archives so the Elliot family is dirt friendly.

Not an expert but just an opinion: New tires take two or three laps to come in it seems like and with a green white checkered finish I think Chase could have held them all off in clean air. Also with 20 people on the lead lap if 2nd on back starts pitting I think cars in the 10th-20th range start staying out to jump up in track position further giving you a buffer. So yes I think it was a mistake.
I love all racing but strategy races are some of the worst in my mind. Love me some straight up sprint races. Of course strategy in set ups for all racing but not fuel mileage, pit sequence, and stuff.

Actually the situation Ford97 describes with new tires vs old tires plays out that way in a very high percentage of NASCAR races. If Chase had restarted with old tires he would be lucky to hold onto a 15th place finish in a green-white-checker scenario.

NASCAR is superior to Sprint Car racing in some ways. Driver earnings and quality nap time on Sunday afternoons come to mind. Seriously though, it's just a different style of racing. I don't compare the two, I just take them for what they are.

A little earlier in the race he stayed out and went straight to the back, he also didnt look like he was getting great restarts. Based on that and the fact he went 11 to 3rd (now 2nd) in two laps it was a good call.

It's possible but with the current package clean air is important and I'm still betting end of the lead lap cars stay out to give him the same amount of buffer Keselowski had between himself and Elliot. It's a gamble I suppose either way. I probably better stop talking NASCAR now before I get kicked off let alone bring up that I'm going to IMCA races tonight with 5 classes of doors completely back gate funded and such. Might start a riot on here. Also wings > no wings and Knoxville will always be the sprint capitol of the world. There I've said my peace for today :)

Please explain how it is rigged and your source of that information so I can watch for it during tonight's race.

Phantom cautions. I'm sure everyone has seen those.
Big motors are legal to win , but deducted points?
Richard Petty winning with Reagan present, when Petty was also a political figureat the time.
Fist fight during the first live Daytona 500.That was lame "fight".
First hand watching a car go through tech with small rear windows. (when pointed out to official, the answer was "mind your own business".That car won that weekend when it was in need of a sponsor to keep going).
Need more?
