reading an article in the local racing paper (AARN) Jeff Gordon is trying to shore up a sponsor for Gravel to transition to Nascar

He has already tested a latemodel

Nothing against Jeff but I wish he would continue to do more for sprint cars ,hate to see another top young star go away.

Lets just hope they wait at least one more year Gravel is just about ready for a title.

This is great for Gravel. Could be the opportunity of a lifetime with Gordon trying to help. I hope it happens for him.

I’d sure hate to lose another to NASCAR, every year I watch it less and could care about it even less. I’ve probably watched maybe 50 laps this season, could t tell you whose leading points even now. I don’t know where or when I lost any desire to pay attention to it but it’s gone. It would also be a shame for the 41 team as they’ve gelled into something kind of special if ya ask me and I agree he’s poised to make a title run.

As long as it doesn't backfire on him like it has others.    Not everyone has had the success in NASCAR that Smoke and Larson have had.    Steve, Kraig, Mark, and Rico are just a few that have tried it and then returned to sprint car racing.    It seems like those guys, with the exception of Steve, weren't the same once they returned.   I'd also question where Gravel could land, although with Gordon involved you'd think it's gotta be Hendrick.   There's only so many rides available and some of them are already filled by young drivers who will be there for years.   And there are a ton of other young drivers waiting in the wings too.    I'd also have to wonder where Gio would wind up.

The one thing that Nascar has is fame and fortune if you are one of the lucky ones that are able to get and keep a ride.Even the Start and Park guys make a good living compared a WOO second tier driver. Gravel is very good in a open wheel car. Bell and Larsen paved the way for some up and coming young drivers but they are both exceptional talents.

If Gravel is going Nascar next year, hopefully the 41 team would give Shane Stewart a shot.

Running trucks would allow him to run a significant amount of sprint car races.

Agreed, Larson and Bell are exceptional talents.   If you look at it though, there almost wasn't a ride in the Cup series for Bell to go to even though he's with Gibbs.   They had to go to Leavine, which is a satellite team they support, to find Bell a seat.  Maybe he can land at Stewart Haas?   They have at least a couple of drivers that could go away in the next few years.  Of course I was hoping maybe Ricky Jr. could land there too.

Is there any guarantee that there will be a '41' team after this year?

I know some may not be a fan of this happening as some have already expressed the whole "Nascar takes another one of "our guys"" statement. While yes there is a negative about not seeing a regular driver on a full time basis, there is some good that comes out of it. It is another driver that will hopefully help promote sprint car racing at that level if he is able to move up through the ranks. Over the course of the past decade, there has been a noticable increase in attendance at races especially if Kyle Larson, Tony Stewart, Christopher Bell, and Kasey Kahne are announced as competing in them. It helps bring attention and with attention hopefully some more sponsorship.

While I do not believe Nascar is not really the pinnacle of racing anymore considering many teams rather choose a driver with financial backing versus talent, it is still the form of motorsports with the most eyes on it. Yes it is seeing attendance numbers & ratings drop throughout the years but, it is still for the most part ahead of Indycar, NHRA, and Off Road in the U.S. If a couple more drivers like Gravel or Gio get up through the ranks, that will only help as long as they continue to promote the sport.

My concern would be for the 41 team. I thought that after this season if Gravel stayed they would be a legitimate title contender next year. I am not a Gravel fan (don't dislike him either) but I do pull for him more than other drivers because of the team he races for. I hope that if Gravel does move on, they are able to find another driver that can get them comparable results with how hard that team has worked. Its also kind of shocking that he has this opportunity at age 27. Today's day in age that is old by Nascar standards. Typically if you do not come with Millions of dollars by age 21 the likely hood of you getting a decent ride is not that good.

Usually I don't mind losing guys to NASCAR because for the most part... in the past it just meant more money, sponsorship, and attention they would cause to trickle "down" into sprint car racing. Smoke, Kasey, Ricky, Larson, Briscoe, and now Bell all have their own sprint car teams. I believe Newman, Bowyer, and Bowman have all have invested in dirt racing teams as well. But I dont feel the same about Gravel. My fear is that Gravel doesn't love sprint car/dirt racing the way these guys do. There's been plenty of rumors hes wanted to get into pavement racing for a few years now. I don't blame him...  there's more money Gravel isn't getting any yuonger. Worst case scenario is the JJR41 team doesn't find a replacement driver of Gravel's caliber and closes up shop. Then if Gravel succeeds in Nascar he becomes like Jeff Gordon and doesn't "reinvest his NASCAR fortunes" in dirt racing as the previously mentioned guys have. For the most part Gordon only makes appearances in Charlotte, Knoxville, and Chili Bowl. As a lifelong Gordon fan this has always irked me. I tend to find myself becoming less and less of a fan. I always thought in his retirement we might see a Gordon funded sprint car team. But I guess I should just be grateful hes helped Gravel as much as he has. Between his family, FOX TV duties, and involvement with Henricks I'm guessing he simply doesn't have the time to own and enjoy a sprint car team.

Hummmm, Bobby Allen are you listening ? My pick would be Logan S. and pull team shark into the fold also. Dryden and team 41 could both benefit from that type of agreement. The wisdom of BA may help both teams and drivers. Logan in my opinion is ready to make a run.

Bieng a female, being of a different ethnic group , having a lot of cash ,or a family that has a long history of racing have helped a few drivers get seats that a more talented or deserving driver does not .Gravel has a lot of talent and wish him the best. It looks like the younger drivers that started in Legends and have made the journey from asphalt late models, K&N,Pro Series,to ARCA,to Infinety and suceed have a shot. Many fail and he dream is over.Guys like Larsen and Bell that were nationally known dirt track stars are the exception and have more talent than many of the top Nascar drivers in different venues.Even though we are not all Nascar fans it is viewed by a lot of people and gets as much coverage as any other sport.Thats why the top drivers make several million a year and the reason the best dirt drivers go there if possible as I doubt there is the thrill that a 950H.P. 1200# sprint car can give.

I agree, they should hire some other guy who has finished as high as 2nd within the last 5 years in outlaw points and made the Knoxville Nationals A Main for each of the past 19 years, they should hire someone like that instead.

I'm not questioning the cost of racing but if the 41 cant make it with the Nats win, the extra Nats sponsorship and a pretty good year with 16 or more fast times and finishes to match , who can afford to race???

Even though I may not know you, I
care what most of you think!
