I remember Brad saying how he needed the rain date when KR went to 3 days.  BDC typically has been advertised as having that rain date the following day too.  What happens if it rains on Brad's originally date this year???

You are getting your panties bunched up because there is no longer a rain date for a race? Don’t you think the WoO, smoke and brad talked before they announced the make up date for tonight? I swear people just want to bitch about something.

Ehh, maybe the Outlaws & Brad, but probably not smoke. He was at Sharon speedway racing. But I am sure with the relationship Brad has with everyone & being all around good guy, they will figure something out. I would like to hope that the rain date is not even needed

Maybe you should check Brad's Twitter before popping off. He doesn't seem to be too chipper on the decision.

Brad and Tony had NOTHING to do with that decision.

The KR is already 1 night too long. 4 nights? I don't need to to see the same 50 car show 3 nights in a row and a slightly different format for the 4th night. JMO.

There is a comment in the rescheduling article on the WoO website that refers to reusing the wristbands etc for a double header

Is that a typo or what is the double header?

WOO & USAC Wed. July 17th. It also says you can use ticket at any race for 2019.

He seems a tad salty for sure.  Can't blame him.

5 events in 5 nights is pretty good for anyone travelling 2000 miles to watch.

Makes it worth the time but more tracks would be better. I'm hoping to get to an Ohio speedweek some time soon.

I follow Brad on Twitter and he is one of my favorites on Twitter.   Always honest and insightful.   He is definitely not happy with what happened.   However, it seems as in life there are always two sides to the story.   Brad's side:   The day after the BDC has always been a date that we have advertised as a rain date for the BDC.   It is always on open date on the schedule and this is a marquee event.   WOO side:  The day before the Kings Royal weekend is an open date on our schedule.   We do not have any contractual requirements with BDC to reserve the date.   We need to make a the rain out from the lets race two and the date before the Kings Royal weekend is open.

There are probably good arguements for both sides.   However, it does feel a little cold for the WOO to use that date.   I would imagine next year that there is a conversation about a guaranteed rain date in the contract.

Very well said.  Agree with you 100%  I can't blame Brad for being salty about it.  It is a little cold for the WoO to use the date.  However, if under no contractual obligation, they have technically done nothing wrong.  I just hope the weather holds good for all 5 nights and then it will be a non-story.

WoO is well within its right to do what it's doing. However, it doesn't make it any less dickish.

Curious if they would have went this route if they hadn't rescheduled Jacksonville for September 25th.

People can mock this all they want but it'd be nice if they clarified what will happen to the Doty if Tuesday rains out. The BDC has used their rain dates quite a bit in the past. If Attica rains out Tuesday, WoO ends up racing at Eldora on Wednesday, and WoO doesn't return to Attica later in 2019 I'll be pissed. Probably my favorite single-night event of the year... and thats considering I usually have to go to work the next day.

Ive heard make it a 2 day show so if it rains, do it in 1 day.

Go back to unsanctioned.

Sounds like WoO is getting more political day by day.

There are a lot of track politics in Ohio and the WoO right in on that.

I miss Ted Johnson days where WoO traveled to more tracks in Ohio than just Eldora.

Wait, so by that logic the Knoxville Nationals is 2 nights too long?

Longtime lurker. Have always wanted to join and post but just never took the iniative to do so. Sitting here starting at another rainy dreary day outside so I figured, why not?   My few random thoughts on this.

1~I think JonRs response above hits on a lot of points. Unless something has changed in the past few years, WoO does not award raindates to tracks as part of the sanction agreement. I specifically asked a promoter friend of mine this very question a couple years ago. Sure there are alot of natural 'next day' assumptions but it's still the WoO to do with their dates as they please.

2~This has been an interesting season for many series and tracks. For not good reasons. As more and more rainouts just pile up every single weekend, we're seeing lots of races getting rescheduled now for later in the season on dates you wouldn't typically see them. Compounding that for this particular event it's a matter of making not just WoO and Eldora, but also USAC's schedule all jive up, and I imagine it becomes even trickier. At the end of the day these series need to race to survive and I suppose both saw this as an opportunity to add a date back to their schedule with minimal travel implications to their racers and fans.

3~I mean no disrespect by this at all but since the Doty race began, it's always been a couple days before the Kings Royal. One can only infer it was done that way on purpose. While it certainly makes sense to do that for many reasons... more fans already in area, drivers, etc... there's always going to be that risk that if something happens with the big race up the road, the trickle down affect to the schedule could mean trouble. Nature of the beast I suppose.

4~I think this particular instance becomes somewhat more compelling just because it's Brad's race. Hes been a great embassador to the sport and to the WoO over the years. To that point, this is definitely more of head scratcher than other reschedule moves. Unofficial or not, the next day after the Brad Doty Classic has been thought of for some time now as the raindate for the race. I think they even used it a few years back. So you can't help but really feel for Brad in this situation.

5~This is a close niche sport for the most part so there are alot of personal feelings and emotions that get wrapped up into things. This is one of those times I think you have to look at from a strictly business decision on the part of the WoO (and USAC and Eldora for that matter). Desperate times (14 races complete and 12 rainouts per that other thread) call for desparate measures.

6~Mother Nature is a real b*tch!

Let's just hope the weather is lights out awesome July 16 and all this whole thing did was give us all an extra race day that week.

Read closer. He is saying the same field of cars for 4 days is too much. You dont have the same field of cars on any two days at the Nationals, let alone 2 days in a row. Even a ficticious Canadian sees that.
