For Immediate Release

(Lakeside, CA, May 10, 2019) Sexton/Gatlin Racing drivers Dalton Sexton and his father Brent posted top 10 finishes in the POWRi California Lightning Sprint Car Series main event last Saturday night at the Ventura Raceway.  For 16-year-old Dalton, it was his second top 10 finish in a row and for Brent, it was his first time inside the top 10 in 2019.

For the second straight race, all three team drivers qualified in the top 10.  Brent, who turned 47-years-young on May 9th, was the fastest of the three when he timed in fourth in the 22-car field with a lap of 13.132.  Dalton, 16, was fourth fastest with a lap of 13.181 and Grant, 14, was 10th when he stopped the clocks at 13.477.

The first heat race included Grant and Brent.  Grant, last year’s CLS Rookie of the Year, finished fifth  in the eight-lapper and that was one spot ahead of two-time series champion Brent.  Dalton was the last of the trio to contest a heat and he posted a family best for the night taking third.

For the 25-lap main event on one of the most beautiful tracks in the USA, Dalton had the best starting spot coming from the outside of the third row in sixth.  Brent was on the inside of the seventh row in 13th for the start and Grant was directly behind him in 15th.

Dalton was never worse than sixth in the 25-lapper and broke into the top five at points in the race before finishing sixth.  Brent moved forward throughout the race and ended up eighth.  Unfortunately, Grant lost his power steering and came home in 17th.

Going into the next race at the Barona Speedway on May 18th, Dalton is 10th in the CLS standings and is only 13-points out of seventh.  Grant sits 14th, eight points out of 12th.  Patriarch Brent is 23rd.
