Anybody know why the PRI show in Indy is not open to fans? Seems like it would be a really neat event to attend.

I thought it was. Is it like an auto-show where the first week is only open to the industry insiders then open to the public the following week?

Because it's not for the fans and there's already an over abundance of people.

It’s not a show for the fans or a multi week show. Normally runs a Friday-Sunday for people in the industry by invite.  Mostly parts manufactures and dealers with minimal show cars. Tons of people walking around with money to spend and if you don’t have something to offer them, don’t bother talking to them.

As has already been said, it does not need to be open to fans. It is only 3 days long and it is packed enough having only owners, drivers, crew/ sponsors, etc inside. Of course, Fans still go, all you need to do is know someone who is going, albeit a race team, a vendor, anything. There are ways around it, but no you can not get credintials as a Race Fan. It is a show that is designed for people in the industry to get together and do business, not like a swap meet where every one gets together to look at everyone elses junk without buying. I will say, if anyone ever has a chance to go, check out the CNC machines. I went back in 2015 and I stood and watched a HAAS machine mill out an cylinder head for about 5 hours. It was one of the neatest things I think I ever seen.

I just made my own business card as a crew guy for a team and have gotten in no problem. Agree it is not a fan event but still a lot of cool displays and cars to check out.

It is actually open to the public on Saturday but keep an eye on our Speed Shift TV Facebook page as we'll be doing live segments all three days using the #InsidePRI and #PRI2018 hash tags. One of our favorite segments is the "Real Racer of the Year" ceremony presented by Speedway Illustrated as well as a live stream of the All Star Circuit of Champions awards ceremony.

If you are a driver, manufacturer, dealer, track or sanction who is going to be there and you would like to be featured in one of our #InsidePRI segments, send me an email at [email protected] and we'll try and get you on the schedule.

I used to go back in the early 90's when it was in Cincinnati. And in 91' or 92' the story around the campfire was the late Tony Elliott was riding in the back of a cab one night and put his hands over the cab drivers' eyes causing him to crash onto the sidewalk. Then everyone in the cab jumped out & scattered. lol

Because most fans would wander around aimlessly looking for autographs and diecast cars.

Fans do not purchase and they take up the vendors' time with questions.

I'd assume b/c it's just like any other trade show, it's for vendors, and people interested in buying those businesses, and like someone else stated, from the trade shows I've attended, it's already crowded enough.

We only go Thursday and Friday.  Thursday isn't bad, but Friday starts getting awful congested and Saturday is unbearable.  We have our list of questions we want to ask certain vendors and that is our priority.  Seeing all the cool stuff in between and talking to people we haven't seen is great, too, of course.  But being able to talk to the manufacturers of all of the products we use in one place is invalubale.  I have to agree that the admisison standards are too lax.  As one person I was talking to last year put it, it's full of people collecting stickers and eating candy that clearly have no legit reason to be there.  Not far off what cubfan said.  But like larsonfan suggested, it is a very neat event.  I'll be heading down there two weeks from today.  Can't wait.
