CALIFORNIA LIGHTNING SPRINT CARS RACE AT THE VENTURA COUNTY FAIR WEDNESDAY!
(Torrance, CA, July 29) The California Lightning Sprint Cars will make the pilgrimage to the Ventura Raceway for one of their most popular races of the year, opening night at the Ventura County Fair, this Wednesday, August 1st. Racing will begin at 6:00 P.M. and will also include the IMCA Modifieds, Dwarf cars and Focus Midgets.
Wednesday nights race will mark the halfway point in the CLS 2018 campaign. Through the first eight races of the year, the series has produced six different winners. Only teenager Aiden Lange of Lakewood has more than one win and he has three victories to his credit. Bobby Michnowicz of Lomita, Cody Nigh of Camarillo, 2010 series champ Jarrett Kramer, Ventura’s Bruce Douglass and Doug Nunes have each scored one win.
Thus far in 2018, the CLS has visited the longtime Ventura oval three times. Lange has scored two of his three victories at the ocean side racing facility. Five-time series champion Michnowicz, who first raced at the track over 35-years ago, captured the other.
Despite only winning one main event, Kramer, 36, of Spring Valley, brings a 129-point advantage into Wednesday’s race and he is coming off a third-place finish at Santa Maria on July 21st. Behind the 2010 series champ in the standings is Lange, teenager Dominic Del Monte of Gardena, Nigh and two-time series champion Brent Sexton of Lakeside.
In the battle for “Rookie of the Year,” Sexton’s two teenage sons, Grant and Dalton, have been in the first two spots all season long. Grant, who just turned 14 and who is the youngest of the two siblings, leads his brother by 41-points after the first eight races.
After Wednesday, the CLS will journey to the Perris Auto Speedway for the last time in 2018 to begin the second half of the season at the annual California Racers Hall of Fame Night on August 18th.
