SEXTON/GATLIN RACING GETS TWO TOP 10 FINISHES AT BARONA – PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY THIS WEEK!

(Lakeside, CA, May 24, 2018) Sexton/Gatlin Racing Team drivers Brent Sexton and son Dalton recorded top ten finishes when the California Lightning Sprint Car Series visited the Barona Speedway for the Jim Squire Memorial last Saturday.  This Saturday, May 26th, the team will head to Perris Auto Speedway for the “70th Anniversary Salute to Indy.”

It was round #4 for the CLS in 2018.  While it was the ckubs first appearance at the San Diego County dirt track in over a decade, the place is no stranger to the racing Sexton’s who live nearby in Lakeside.  Patriarch Brent had raced there in the old days with the CLS and his two sons cut their racing teeth there in the track resident junior classes.  Their experience showed in qualifying as all three timed in among the top 10 in the 23-car field.  Youngest son Grant was the quickest of the family trio when he bested all, but one other car on hand with a lap of 14.819.  Brent was third fast at 14.828 and Dalton was eighth with a lap of 15.271.

The teenage brothers squared off in the second heat with Dalton getting fourth and Grant taking eighth.  Father Brent posted a family best on the night in the heat races when he won heat #3.

For the 25-lap main, Dalton had the best starting spot coming from the inside of the second row.  Brent was outside row three and Grant was inside the sixth row.  Veteran Brent quickly worked his way forward and momentarily took over second.  He eventually finished fourth and never ran out of the top four the entire race.  Dalton ended up with a season best eighth.  Grant slapped the wall and dropped out after 10-laps placing 18th.

Going into Saturday’s race on the biggest track on the circuit, Brent is second in the championship standings and only trails the leader by 13-points.  Grant and Dalton are ranked 10th and 11th in the standings with Grant holding a slender 4-point advantage over Dalton in the “Rookie of the Year” chase.

Fans wishing to attend Saturday’s show can find Perris Auto Speedway at 18700 Lake Perris Drive in Perris (92571).  The track phone number is (951) 940-0134 and the website is  http://perrisautospeedway.com/
