SEXTON AND SONS RACE IN THEIR OWN BACKYARD SATURDAY AT BARONA SPEEDWAY!

(Lakeside, CA, May 17, 2018) When the California Lightning Sprint Car Series makes its first appearance in more than 10 years at the Barona Speedway for the Jim Squire Memorial this Saturday, May 19th, it will be a virtual home game for two-time series champion Brent Sexton and his teenage sons Dalton and Grant.  The track, which is in Lakeside, is just a stone’s throw away from the Sexton’s Lakeside home.  Racing will begin at 5:00 P.M.

Anticipation for the CLS return to the dirt track located near the Barona Casino and Resort has reached a fever pitch among San Diego County race fans.  The Sexton/Gatlin Racing Team has been right in the middle of the excitement.  Last Sunday the racing trio was featured on KUSI TV in San Diego promoting the race and on Wednesday they were at the El Cajon Car Show.

Heading into this weekend’s race, two-time series champion Brent is coming off a second-place finish at the Ventura Raceway on May 5th.  He has moved up to third in the championship standings and is a mere 15 points out of first.  Grant is 11th in the standings and Dalton is 14th.  In addition, Grant and Dalton are ranked first and second respectively in the “Rookie of the Year” chase.

While the race is the first for the CLS at Barona in more than 10 years, none of the Sexton/Gatlin drivers are strangers to the track.  Brent was a regular at the facility when it was the home track for the CLS in the early days of the club.  Both boys have competed there in the tracks junior racing classes.  In addition, they have all had some valuable practice time recently on the quarter-mile dirt oval in their current CLS cars.

Fans wishing to attend Saturday’s show can find the Barona Speedway at 1754 Wildcat Canyon Road in Lakeside (92040).  The track phone number is (619) 749-8115 and the website is www.baronaspeedway.com
