Folks on this forum raise a lot of fuss about the PA Posse verses the world thing. Truth be known, most of us are jealous of Pennsylvania. They have an abnormally long season, they have a lot of sprint car tracks and they have a lot of great drivers. I live, I dunno, a couple thousand miles maybe from Pennsylvania but have been lucky enough to watch probably a dozen PA drivers with the WoO and the AllStars. Who is your favorite Pennsylvania sprint car driver?

My favorite would be Stevie Smith. Years ago,Husets Speedway would have an open house at the Oaks Motel the night before their WoO race. I got to talk to Stevie for a long time because I got there early with my young son. He seemed kind of bored talking about the usual racing stuff. So we had an enjoyable talk about the geography of Pennsylvania around where he lived. He's very polite and interesting.

Gotta be Lance DeWease for me, after people were thinking he was washed up a few years back, & now wins half the time he shows up....

But I like all of them actually.....

I have always been a fan of "The Edge" Brian Monteith, But I have to agree with The Rev, it has been nice to see Lance Dewease come back from the scrape heap over the last few seasons. A driver to keep your eye on is Brock Zearfoss. He could be the next Pa driver to emgerge on the national scene over the next few years.

WOW. How can you pick a favorite ? If you look at the history of sprint car racing in pa. each era would give you a driver that could be on top of that list. Or I could say me. LOL. made many a good friend in my era, we had are runs, weekly racing in pa is so intense people just don't realize that part of it. Freddie could turn that on and off like no one other. When Paxton walked across the track it was all business until the motors went silent. You could go on and on about many different drivers. A favorite, tuff call i believe, the question will always be what era of driver was the best. I don't think the new driver of today could drive the car of yesterday. We had hard tires, we didn;t have the shocks, and the wings were not something you could move every time the yellow came out. Today's guys have HP that we never did, good thing too, because the rate of serious injury would have been high. We ran big blocks for the HP and torque, weight was a after thought, a big block today would be a dinosaur and be nothing more than a roadblock. It has and always will be about who has the most money. Heck if you had 2 motors you were rich. Guys could pull there motor saturday morning throw bearings and rings in it and be back at the track that night. Times have changed i guess. I'll take Smookie as my favorite, the man with the smile.

Probably in no particular order Lance Dewease, Fred Ramer, Billy Pauch and Todd Shaffer were my favorites growing up. Out of curiosity does anyone out there have a helmet of Lance Dewease they would be willing to sell? I have been looking to get one for my collection and am willing to pay a fair price.

None, they all suck! LOL I've been a LD fan since he drove the 2D so he's my all time fave. Always liked Stevie Smith, a class act(him and his dad) and I think he's had the most success nationally. Not a PA driver but I liked Wolfgang a lot in the 29.  As a young kid, my favorites were Kramer Williamson, Paul Pitzer and Paxton.

Frankie Thompson then Mitch Smith then Paul Lotier then Todd Shaffer. Don't really have a favorite anymore but did pick Brock Zearfoss and Logan Wagner a few years ago to be up and comers.

I know we're supposed to say they all suck because they're not from California, but yeah...

Current : Lucas Wolfe, his dad was my original favorite driver.

All-Time : Brian Leppo, he was just an easy fan-favorite for so many people, and he even ended up driving for Keen in the end.

Honorable Mention : Mitch Smith, I'm too young to have ever seen him drive, but I'm related to him, so...

Keith Kauffman who has won everywhere (Eldora, Knoxville, Florida, California, Australia, etc.) and also won wingless (USAC and WoO).  Eldora (#29) and Knoxville (#77, #880, #7) were in Posse cars & he came so close to winning Syracuse (more than once), the King's Royal, and the Historical Big One.

Stevie Smith and Jeff Shepard were strong favorites too along with Stevie's dad. Just watched on YouTube Stevie's 2nd place run in the Mopar Million to Haud ... .not bad for a guy who never ran a wingless race before!

All had strong ties to the traveling series .... now cheering for Lucas Wolfe (traveled at one point) and Blane Heimbach.

Wish I could have seen Jan Opperman - heard MUCH about him!!
