2nd Gale Patterson Memorial for UMSS Sprint Cars

Details:

  • The 2nd Gale Patterson Memorial race will take place on Saturday April 21st at Cedar Lake Speedway for the UMSS winged 360 sprint car series
  • It was not my intent to organize another memorial race but Ron Bernhagen asked if I would consider it. I agreed because of my love for the UMSS winged series, desire to see the relationship between CLS and the UMSS continue to grow, and finally I want to keep my dad’s spirit alive. It has been nearly 2 ½ years since my dad passed away. His death still stings but I want the racing world to remember him and what he meant to me.
  • For those that do not know, my dad and I raced with the UMSS series from 2011-2015. My dad was my crew chief. We watched races for the first 18 years of my life then we transitioned to racing cars for the next 12 years. We loved racing sprint cars together until he died of lung cancer in 2015.

Donations:

  • I am reaching out to solicit donations to raise the UMSS winged class’ purse
  • My goal is to raise $2,175 which will allow us to pay $350 to start the A-main
  • To show my commitment to the race, I will contribute $500 to get the ball rolling. Couple this with another $200 raised, and we are already at 32% of the goal!
  • If you are interested in donating, please text, call, or email me. 100% of the donations will go directly to the drivers.
  • My hope is the increased purse money will encourage more race teams to show up and put on a great show for the fans

Wrap-up:

  • My long-term goal is to get back into racing sprint cars again, but until that happens, it is my honor to contribute to the sport through the memorial race for my dad
  • I sincerely appreciate your consideration and hope you can make it out to this great event
  • The makeup date will be in July if necessary

We are very close to the goal! Only $280 to go.

If we raise the full amount, we can advertise the race will pay $350 to start which is a 75% increase over the standard starting pay. This will encourage more teams to race and make this a special night. There have been many generous donations to get us this close to the goal. Thank you!

Goal:

Current:

$1,895

% of goal:

87%

Remaining:

$280

Side note, one of the people that donated, was a sprint car driver that dad and I watched race many years ago that raced at West Fargo, N.D.

Thanks to the generosity of Jim with JT Auto Sales in Cumberland, WI, we have increased the purse again for the Gale Patterson Memorial on April 21st at Cedar Lake Speedway.

He specifically asked for positions 7-10th to be increased. Since 7th paid more than 6th, I will chip in another $25 for 6th.

See below for the revised payout. Hopefully the weather changes soon but if needed we do have a planned makeup date of July 7th which is during the World of Outlaws race. I hope we race in April but we’ll see if the weather allows it.

Even Ray Charles could see this race wasn't happening next weekend. Darn snow and cold!

The good news is the makeup date is July 7th which is part of the World of Outlaws race. My dad and I watched the Outlaws many times at Red River Valley Speedway and Cedar Lake Speedway over the years. It will be very special to have his memorial race the same night. Should be an awesome night of 410 & 360 sprint car racing.

I will need to work with the UMSS on the final purse for that night as July 7th is also a Midwest Power Series race. 100% of the money raised will be paid that night.

Look forward to seeing everyone that night!

Chad Patterson
