Gary, What a suprise. I remember you well. I live in Daytona & have since April 2002. Have our house for sale & will move back to the Heartland when we sell. The track in Georgia was at Warren Robbins south of Macon. We went on tp Tampa for the Feb IMCA races there.

My email is; [email protected] Write sometime, Luther

Luther

Sounds like quite a road trip. Did you race all the way to Florida? Who was driving for you, Ray Lee?

Rusty, That trip was in Feb 1969 in the white w/red trim car. Ray Lee already had a ride for the Tampa IMCA Fair dates so I took Thad Dosher. The track at Warren Robbins was a 1/4 mile asphalt. It was the track that had a still under turns 3 & 4. The law found about the still and tore up that end of the track about a year after that. That was all covered in NSSN. Some readers amy remember the track by the still ! Ray Lee & I did hook up for Columbus, IN in early April 69 and Dallas, Texas for Good Friday (April) 1969 before our season opened the next week.He also drove for me some of the 69 season.

Ray Lee usually had someone from back east call him far in advance of the Feb dates. He only drove my car at the Tampa Fair in Feb 68. It was the 7 th car I built. I think we ran 4th in points for the 5 race day event. The fair always ended on the same day that the Daytone 500 was being run. All of the Tampa Fair dates I attended were at the old dirt 1/2 mile downtown between the river and University. The property was sold to the University in the mid or late 70s and they built a new track east of Tampa on I-4. I never was at the new track.... Luther

A question about car #5. Did it have a bolt on cage when you built it or did Cunningham's change it to that?

The roll cage was welded on all 4 corners to the frame. The later pictures of it as the #14 car show the front roll bars were cut, spread then a tube welded in as if it is removable. I think what happened was, Bob Williams hit the inside wall at I-70 and bent the frame. Bob told me they could not get the frame straight until they heated it. That is likely when he cut the front roll bar loose and made the mounts. The rear roll bar was never cut or removed. This is an assumption on my part. Luther

I built this car for the 69 season for Don Hoenshell of Raytown, Missouri. Don drove midget race cars on the KC circuit in the late 40s & early 50s. The car was later sold to one of the McVay brothers and later to someone in Illinois.

Hello, my name is Theresa Couch (Hoenshell), Don Hoenshell was my uncle. David Hoenshell was my dad...I have some slides of the cars my dad and uncle don either built or just raced...my dad is passed and so is my uncle Don, but I was wondering if you would be interested in looking at them and maybe posting them...I don't know a whole lot about computers or i would just send them via this way. Eddie Mcvay was my dads best friend...did Eddie do some welding for you in the past? I miss all of them. You can call me if you have in questions...my phone number is listed in the registration for this website. Thank You Theresa Couch (Hoenshell)

Mrs. Couch this is Warren Vincent I maintain this site Racing From The Past. I believe Luther is attending graduation ceremonies in Arkansas and on a short vacation to KC area. He now lives in Florida. He probably won't be on the computer.

The only way I can get the photos on this site is

1. You or someone scan the photos and then attach them to an e-mail and send them to me at [email protected]

2. Someone can scan the photos and save them to your files and then upload them to this forum.

3.Take the photos to someone and have them transfer them to a CD and then mail the CD to me in the mail.

4. The only other way is to send the photos or have copies made and then send them tome in the mail. The problem with getting copies made is some places won't because of the Photographers copyright maybe. I know most of the photographers from the day have passed away or are not in the business anymore. If the photog didn't put his stamp on the back of them you might be okay. If there your photos your okay or just tell them you took the photos.

We can put all the photos in one section right here just we did with Luthers photos. I will put any text you send me under the photos. You can keep in touch with any ole friends and fans also just like Luther does. You might be surprised who may contact you from the past.

To send e-mail through the forum just click on the person name or screen name in blue and then click on send e-mail to.

Thanks Warren for all you do for racing from the past. I sent Mrs Couch an email through RFTP over the week end. I would like to see the photos and would be nice to see them on your site. Hope I hear from her & can help get them posted.

I am on 247 th Street, west of Highway 69 in Miami Co, KS. staying at a family members house. Warren, I would like to pay the annual fee that you just payed. Send me an email and I will send you the reimbursement. Please do this as most of us want to be a part of this & you do so much for us in your position as the administrator. Please,...Luther

Hopefully you copied the other photos of your dad in this thread. There were a couple others here. There is even a video of a short clip of him racing in Tampa, FL

Thank you all for the memories of the days my dad raced (Stan Borofsky). I remember all these drivers with fond memories: Jan opperman, Ray Lee Goodwin, Thad Dosher, Jon Backlund, Eddie Levitt, & Dick Sutcliffe. Would love to hear more stories.
