Uhhhh...this might be a stupid question but if the chemical actually softens the tire, wouldn't a simple durometer indicate a change?
Do they durometer check the tires? I know in the past, some "favorite sons" were getting tires that were stamped one thing and the tires were actually a different compound.

As a kart racer, I think I can speak somewhat intelligently about this. We use a lot of different preps for many different things...some preps are to soften the tire, some are to condition the tire (keeps oils in a tire to freshen the rubber); other preps are used to build heat quicker in the tire, allowing it to fire off quicker (some of these types of preps burn off during the race, some are down in the tire more). A lot of it depends on how the tire is prepped. Internally prepped tires put prep through the tire more, making it more consistent. External prepping is used at the track typically for grip, or to fire the tire off quicker. There are many preps available for all of these purposes, and some are labeled "Nondetectable" b/c they will pass the sniffer test. For more info on these preps, check out www.4cycle.com and look in the forums under Handling and then Tires/Preps. You can actually talk to Eric Rendleman, Randy Ransom from Track Tac, and other prep makers and ask them all the questions you want. Hope this helps.

If he show's up go ahead and log #94 in the book. He already gets booed by everyone at Kville, do you think a few more are going to bother him. I DOUBT IT. The only guy that I can think of that will get booed more will be if that Trader FAVRE has the nads to walk into Lambeau in a Purple Jersey. For the record REAL MEN DONT WEAR PURPLE...........

That tire wasnt doped up! I was standing there. they were grinding it off. It was sealed over. The white lettering was not altered or discolored or faded in any way. There was no odor at all. I worked for Hoosier awhile. I worked for Lasoski last season. He is smarter than that. It wasnt the tire that won that race anyway.

Big Right Rear,, you mean it wasnt right that they re-ran that entire show a few years ago at Knoxville... Hmmm... I bet you are also gonna tell me that when the Dude spun on the backstretch that he should have stayed right where he was when that yellow came out.... I mean,,it wasnt his fault (???) that the yellow was waved... it was quick thinking by that flagman... LMAO... then he had to go and run right into Madsen... the Dude sure should thank his lucky stars that he has a Knoxville....

When you say you were standing there, do mean pre-race? At the shop? Under a red flag? I find it hard to believe that he is running an old sealed over tire. I'm not saying that you are not telling the truth, I am just curious as to when the tire was ground. They're obviously not going to break out the tire dope at the race track. I've ground plenty of tires and it doesn't change the way the tire looks or smells or feels after the race is over.

Are you saying that it was after victory lane and back at the trailor that they were grinding the tire? If that's the case it seems weird to me that the officials would come and take the tire at that point. I would tell them to get lost.

That's fine if you want to say what you have to say and then take off. I wasn't arguing with you, I was asking a question of someone who obviously knows what happened. I realize that they grind tires before the race but that has absolutely no bearing on whether the tire was doped or not. I also asked if he was using a used tire, obviously he was or he wouldn't need to grind it. But that's fine, don't stick around to back up what you say. Better yet, don't post at all.

I was'nt arguing with you either. The tire was new at the beginning of the night. After time trials and a heat race the tires seal over after they cool down. You Have to run the same right rear tire all night. You cant change it.. You grind the surface of the tire so the tire will fire off on the starts faster. That tire was warm when it was being prepped. There was no odor to it at all. Paydirt. Sorry for the misunderstanding. Thanks

lol...easy now!
you are correct...the dude knows who butters his bread...Kville is the only track where an inadvertent green (ask Brad Doty why he issued a PG rated WTF "on air" for that Nationals TV Broadcast) can trump the high profile inadvertent yellow you referenced.
i'm telling you...its genetic engineered corn...between the ears...and now quite possibly used as an "inconclusive tire softener".
