The Jalopy races us old men used to watch on KTLA channel 5, with Dick lane broadcasting, was better than that show.LOL And the sad thing is ,the NASCRAP special race last weekend was too. I'm a lifelong sprint car, Midget, and big car snob, and if the truth hurts, tough.

This was a prime example why they should only show 1/3 mile or 1/4 mile bull-ring tracks on national television. Anything bigger (4/10 to 1/2) and the cars get strung out, especially when you have small fields and 7 or 8 car heats. Add to that the horrible track prep. Dragging a garden rake around the corners did as Doty suggested it would do: nothing. Single file duck style, get out of line and you pay the price as the 15 and others found out. A disgrace on national television. Idiots!

Adding $6 trillion of debt in his 1st term and now if
elected again he wouldn't have to worry about an
electorate in 2016 so the sky is the limit. And his EPA
would continue to put the screws to oil drilling and
mining for coal. Can you say bankruptcy.

If you agree with me Rob, I must be doing something wrong. LOL...This is how it's done boy's. http://www.jackslash.com/main_page_2.html Watch the qualifying from down on the track...GOOD STUFF!!! It will go to full screen..
There seems to be something else wrong when a dirt track has to be exceptional, or almost perfect, for a series to put on a decent show there.

Hell I seen two features that way this weekend and one last weekend on 1/4 mile tracks in Indiana without the wing on heavy tracks. Go cry to someone else.

I didn't care so much for the heats but I thought the feature was pretty exciting myself. Watch a dry slick 1/4 mile track. Talk about huggypole racing.

while it is very limited, i do have a bit of knowledge on production. so i give credit to those who pull off the live or semi-live telecast on what more than likely is a small budget and short preproduction time. my point was that i don't need someone trying to impress me with their self appreciating insight into the production qualities of a sprint car race that has just been brought to me darn near as it is happening. especially when as mentioned, 'ol schatzie got what was left of his chicken dinner handed to him as a bag of bones in front of his boss, most of the big time racing crowd, and all of us watching. in my opinion it was a marvellous production! and i am glad i am not alone in seeing joey AND jason hand it to donny!

It was an embarrasment and anyone who says otherwise is crazy. You get a prime time (semi) live TV slot on the biggest weekend in motorsports and they blew it big time.

WoO just pissed in the ears of all the people who saw Sprint Cars on the TV schedule and thought they would check it out. If I wasnt a hardcore sprint fan and I watched that piece of garbage my mind would have been made up.

More weight, more regulation, more similarity in the
cars.... that will ensure plenty of thrills for years
to come. Only the most average talent behind the
wheel will be needed with such awesome equipment on
the track!

As if the WoO lost out a ton of first time viewers tonight; the WoO should just pull the plug on the season and act as if they never existed!!!

Sheesh... give 'em a break. Everyone in here has seen several 410 sprint events on the same track conditions produce the same results. Echoing a couple of comments from others: 1) Kinser did an awesome job passing some cars in the heat and 2) the feature was exciting once the leaders hit lapped traffic..... why so suprised??? Quit acting like this was the first sprint car race you witnessed; many WoO features don't get "exciting" at the front until lapped traffic.

Oh yeah, "anyone who says otherwise is crazy".

Hey Slide, I WAS watching some harness racing tonite while utilizing my DVR at home. What a waste of time! Who's dumb idea was it to race at that time anyway? An embarassing show and anyone interviewed who didn't bring up the LOUSY conditions needs to grow a pair. As bad a show as it was it did produce a good winner, props to Joey and team. Take It Easy....

MSPN-Nothing wrong with watching a little harness racing, is just ain't a substitute for sprints. No reason to get all worked up about track conditions. I guess that artie just don't ever get out of the house to watch racing. Glad he is so proficient that he can sit and rip on sprint cars. Probably is just a fendered fan that wishes that sprints would just fall off of the earth so you can't make a living selling pics to those of us who are fans of the open wheel.

1.) Lack of tack prep. It was 81 degrees in cloudless skies on Thursday. The track was watered, packed, rewatered, packed, tilled, watered and repacked atleast 3 times. How do I know? I was there from 10am to 5 pm, that's how. And for the record, I was there all day Friday too. 87 degrees in cloudless skies and the track prep regimen was about identical to the day before.

2.) Why was the show semi tape delayed? Because the FASTRAC Late Models were support and had enough cars to make 5 heat races. By the way, congrats to Austin Dillon for running wire to wire in the feature. (Sorry folks, I am a RACING fan, not just a sprint car fan. As long as it's fast enough to kick up a rooster tail and sling mud in my beer, I'm happy.)

3.) HD cams vs. SD cams. An astute observation, but he's correct. The only thing is, you don't put a $10,000 HD camera in a spot that is vulnerable to being wiped out by flying debris from a wreck, Phil. Can we atleast get credit for this?

4.) I'll have to watch my return a little closer in Dodge City so I can see these crummy promo's that prompted another post just to complain about them.

5.) Come on, Phil. I've seen lip sync be off on nearly every live broadcast including the Daytona 500, the Superbowl, The World Series and The Masters. We fixed it, just like they did. It happens. A man of your production experience would know this Phil. Of course, you've never had a show go off with no mistakes... right Phil?

6.) I like Sean Buckley myself. Unforturnately, he's no longer with the broadcasts. I like Shane and Sara as well. That doesn't make me a bad guy, does it?

7.) There is nothing more I'd like to see than to have a weekly show like Thursday Night Thunder. The reality is, with guys like Phil nitpicking everything under the sun, is it any wonder they stick to womens billiards and celebrity poker instead? Who can blame them when the billiards and poker freaks actually appreciate a broadcast?

To everyone who enjoyed the broadcast, thank you from everyone at WoO, Lowes, WRG and the crew. The best way to get more racing coverage on TV is to demand it from the World of Outlaws themselves.

Just one more thing, Phil. For such a perfectionist as yourself, a guy would think that a man of your stature would insist on a quality website and not a geocities or tripod site to blow his own horn from. How much does WoO need to send to you paypal style for this priceless information you sent?

Hi Camera 4 - welcome to the forum. Apparently you were on the broadcast crew? Guess we ruffled a few feathers eh? Good. Notice I didn't fault the camera work - although the pit interview cam ops do need to learn to set focus on the subject before going hot. Allow me to address your rebuttal --

1- Regardless of the time spent on track prep it was woefully unsuccessful - that track has historically sucked regarding track conditions. The attempt at reworking the track prior to the feature was lame as the tiller was set to barely scratch the surface. It should have been completely tilled, re-watered and re-packed as bad as that track was. Have you ever been to the Chili Bowl or Haubstadt?

2- I had and have no issues at all regarding starting taped and catching up to live - it's the only practical way to do such a show.

3- Worried about a $10,000 camera? When I was working in the biz our cheapest handheld ENG cam Fujinon lenses alone cost $5-7,000. Internal focus Canons were close to $10K. Our hard cams were mounted with $60,000 Canon lenses. Add the cam head & triax body, sled, pan head and support and our hard cams were ~ $125K/ea. A new broadcast quality HD ENG camera runs around $50K. So I am well aware of the huge expense for broadcast quality gear. That's why there are companies like NEP and Game Creek. Perhaps the EIC should make you aware of the actual value of the gear with which you are working. Here's a couple of quick links for you --

Canon HD ENG lens

Sony HD portable cam

FYI - "upon further review" that whole show was merely widescreen SD - apparently the hard cameras were higher quality than the ENGs?

4- The Lernerville promo was the one with the 16:9 race clips "squished" to 4:3 - and the graphics were horribly aliased.

5- Nearly EVERY live broadcast?? C'mon now... you and I both know better than that. SOP is to have a lip-sync test prior to air about the same time you test RF cams. A1 had a few issues that night - beginning with the tease... And yes I have had a lot of shows with no mistakes at all, some with a few - but never a show with as many technical quality errors as that one.

6- I too like Sean - too bad he is apparently not "PC" enough for WRG. Erin did a decent job in her debut.

7- Oh I'm sure it's all my fault... Have you ever heard of Nielsen ratings? Lingner Group did great, technically innovative work on the Thunder series - I too wish it was still around.

FYI - Geocities and Tripod are free hosting companies. Mine is SBI - a hosting company for individuals and small businesses that is an "all-in-one solution" for those who know little about html and web design. I'm admittedly not a webmaster by any means - just a "vidiot" - but my unfancy "humble little web site" works well for me. Google "home theater systems" - my site is near the top of over 46,000,000 search results for the term so I must be doing something right. Smile

And donations aren't necessary (but are appreciated) - just pitching in trying to raise the technical quality of the WoO broadcasts - consider it a freebie. wink

Good luck with the next live (post produced/delayed shows like Dodge are comparatively easy) WoO show at the World Finals ... I mean that sincerely. I'll be watching.
