After going to Lernerville and Eldora this past week I realize Knoxville does some things better than a lot of tracks, and lacks in some departments. I'll start with the positives from Knoxville first. Knoxville by far has the best safety crew in the country, they are the best prepared and quickest to respond to any accident. Second Knoxville has far nicer facilities than any track that I have been to yet (tracks include Eagle, US 36, Knoxville, Davenport, Eldora, Lernerville). However, Knoxville needs to improve on a few things, the first of which is the pace of the event. Eldora and Lernerville both moved faster than a show at Knoxville. Eldora had cars lined up and ready to go and they seem to run pace laps than they do at Knoxville which seemed to help move the night along rather quick. Second, Knoxville concession prices are outrageous when compared to Eldora's prices. This is supposed to be affordable family fun, and at Eldora it is, when you go to Knoxville you can't get out of there with out spending $20 on food for two people. One last "complaint" about Knoxville our the fans. All of the fans like myself that live within a reasonable driving distance of Knoxville are spoiled. We have the opportunity to experience sprint car racing at it's finest at the mecca of sprint car racing week in and week out, yet attendance looks poor and lack luster. I met fans this week that would kill to be in our position and we need to step up and start enjoying what we are so lucky to have, which is great racing. The fans at these other tracks are more energetic and made me love sprint car racing even more than I already do...I think it's time for us fans to bring that same energy and excitement to Knoxville!

As far as the extra pace laps go, I would take track prep in to consideration. Knoxville is generally tacky and requires quite a few laps of wheel packing between races to make sure the track is wide enough for two to three grooves. This has just as much to do with the type of surface as it does track prep.

As far as the concessions go, I wouldn't know. I haven't been to very many weekly races at knoxville and the ones I have been to we ate before we got to the track. And, during nationals week, with all the other good food around the track there is no reason the have to eat at the track. If you don't eat before, wait until break and run out and grab a good pork loin Smile.

All the watering & re-running the track in (at the minimum 3-4 times each night) really sped things along at Eldora last weekend. Major Bum!!! Still like the place though. I told a Eldora fanatic which of whom I was camping with, Back home (Iowa) we very rarely ever have to re-work the track during a show and the track still sticks to your shoes at the end of the night.

Very funny, Azteca. Judd says he would be a rich man for everytime someone asked him that!

Oh ...different Judd Nelson huh?? ... she's out then.

Just curious NKC, what made Hoseheads better than the local radio coverage? I would love to hear your take on this.

Hot Rod and Bill W are walking encyclopedias of sprint car racing. They were able to fill their broadcast with facts and tidbits for those of us that aren't racers, don't know any racers, and are just sprint car fans. Their delivery was smooth and they worked well together. I'm sure Brockman is trying hard, but seems inexperienced. Races start before you even know who is in the lineup, and Jamie seems surprised when that happens. You never got the feeling Hosehead wasn't in control, not so this year. Overall, Jamie seems to be using the 8 color box while Hot Rod and Bill W are using the 64 color box with the sharpener.

I don't think it's bitching and moaning, I just think Knoxville needs to hear opinions like this. Knoxville by far is the best dirt track i've been to, however they have areas that they could improve upon, and I just felt for me these were things that would improve my racing experience and possibly the racing experience for others.

That's like saying Michael Jordan could have been a little better at shooting free throws.

Yeah we do have great health care but if you had some of the food at sydney speedway you would understand why we do lol

Ho Hum!!! Think I'll go back to sleep!!!!! This "K-ville is heaven" subject has been discussed for sooo long that it isn't worth it!!! Hell, when they ran the 1st race in Vegas we were there & a guy told me that shit & he'd NEVER even been to Eldora!!! But he KNEW that K-ville was the best. I have too much respect for both places to rate one above the other. A lot of comparisons on here ,but not about the racing......better racing in Iowa, faster speeds in Ohio.....Pick one....We tend to think that ALL sprint car tracks are fun. They all have their own personalities & that's what makes the sport unique. The conditions change all of the time! If you can, take in as many different tracks as you can...it gives you an insight that you can't get by reading this board. Hell, I llive in Ohio & am going to Cottage Grove for the 1st time in Sept!!!!! Yea, we'll be in Iowa in Aug, too. Hey Bill W.......I'll wear the shirt if you guys use my intro this year!!!!!heh heh heh!!!!

You'll love the real 'Grove' Stubb, but you may struggle to find it, give yourself lots of time and be pretty sober on the way there. Heck, it's in town and yet you almost need a helicopter to get in to the place, great setting, enjoy....
