  ASCS 360 - $50,000

  WoO 410 - $70,000

ASCS rebuild after 18-22 shows with average rebuild if nothing is wrong $7- $7,500

  WoO rebuild 8-10 shows $9,500 - $10,000

Out of curiosity, how many races will an ASCS or WoO team put on a motor before retiring it? Any guess what they get when they sell them?

Here’s a quote on the subject straight from Claud Estes III that races the Sprint Car Bandits:

“The engine in the 72 car was built by KEVIN Roland at South West Engines in 2003-2004 it has about 625-650 hp ascs

Been freshened up 4 times since and has over 2000 laps on it , currently 3 years since it's been freshened
My wesmar engine , formally a Jason Johnson
Engine was built in 2010 and has around 680-700 hp and has over 2500 laps on it since new , with 4 freshened ups .
Hope this helps

Also both engines I paid less than $20.000 for

I was hoping Wesmar could give us a ballpark figure for the ASCS and WoO teams to compare to.

I dont believe there are any 410 races in Az either, only 360 weekly/regional shows.

The outlaws come here once a year and the CRA wingless cars come here a couple times a year and they are 410. But 410 races are few and far between. I’m ok with that. Just wish the car counts were a little better. Saturday night we went to Canyon Speedway to see USAC 360 cars. Great race but I think 16 cars started the feature. The micro sprints and it on a heck of a show and were only a half second off the 360 sprint cars in lap times and I think they had around 18 cars. Good racing though in the micro class too.

Say what? The hammer falls both ways. The guys in USAC and CRA get their butts handed to them by the WoO when they run under a wing. The best sprint car drivers have always gravitated to the WoO because that's where the money is. Given the time to adapt, I have little doubt the top WoO drivers would soon dominate the wingless crowd.  After all, slowing down is easier than speeding up! And history is on my side.

I think equipment plays a bigger part in the winged car vs the non wing. Given everything being equal I’d still take the non wing vs a winged guy in a non wing race. Granted you are gonna have Steve Kinser, Jac and Sammy but they came up driving both cars. The World of Outlaws used to run both races in the same season. There are very regulars on the WoO today who have ever raced a non wing car and I think they would have a steeper learning curve than what you think.

You're right. That's why I say it would take some time for the winged guys to catch up. Of course back in the day (which I grant you it's different today), the first time Stevie Smith Jr ever ran without a wing he toasted the wingless guys by running second to Jac in the MOPAR MILLION. And had there been another lap or two he may have beaten Jac. He was all over him at the checkers.

I think Mr Arnold should rethink his position.

We also must remember that the Outlaw drivers can not race anywhere else and the ASCS drivers are free to run wherever they desire. Most of the ASCS National drivers run 3 to 4 times a week. The Outlaws schedule is down to about 65 shows and they drive past good paying unsanctioned shows to sit and wait for their Outlaw dates. Or they schedule on top of other unsanctioned show in the area cutting crowds and car counts.

The ascs drivers can race 3-4 times a week on their off weeks from the national tour but it’s only like 2000$ to win at those ascs regional  races. Check out the big cheques they’re holding on the front page. And 3/4 of the national tour drivers show up for those races so why would those tracks book a National race for 5 times the money? Seems Pretty ridiculous To me.
