I'm not so sure they shot down the argument of "need track experience at the Grove", really. Starting front row played a major part in his success (which by WoO rules he earned), couple that with a track that stayed fast and narrow for everybody and position changes can be rather limited during the course of a race. He was fast on Saturday night also, and went backwards. The kid has all kinds of talent, but he is far from being a regular threat or even a not so regular threat at Williams Grove.

Scelzi seemed like the fastest car all weekend,  definitely got out driven on Saturday

But not a threat? Friday winner, fast qualifier Saturday, won his heat both nites....what do you consider a threat? Front row starters Saturday were both Posse, but I was DEFINITELY worried about Scelzi on Row 2....

Great feature.  Track was fast at the beginning of the night and still pretty fast in the feature.  It slicked of a little but the drivers still could get a good bit.

I guess there is a basic difference here of what appeals to us as fans. You seem obsessed with lap times & speed. That makes sense for the Bonneville Salt Flats. Most of us like passing & intense competition

You're talking about Lance's winning pass, which was perfection. I think most of us are talking about side by side bumping on restart, about lap 25 (?)

I posted thoughts on that separately from the one you refer to. No big deal you must have missed it. As for your real threat question....at Williams Grove, being fast and being a threat to win are as different as night and day. Probably not a track anywhere in the country that can cause the fastest guy of the night to struggle during an actual race feature like WG can. It's a set up nightmare! Do a video over video of Dewease running Williams Grove and there won't be much of a blurr with the overlap. It's the same line and speed race after race after race. It's like he's on cruise control. Very little moving around and and I don't recall ever seeing him do a slide job there, either. Just drives on by. They have the place wired, but the place always seems wired for him, also.

Not arguing about Dewease on cruise control, but as to the slide job comment, I think you need to go back and see his pass on Donny to win the WoO race in July.

I watched the highlights and talked to someone who was at Port.  Then I looked at the start and finishing order.  That is all you need since I have been to Port over 100 times in my life.

I have been to Port many times when the track is right and many times when the track was way off.  I know what times they need to be turning to have the most exciting racing.  If it is any slower than high 15 to very low 16 second bracket in warmups you see the track getting hard, black, and dry before the heats are over=sucky racing.  That is not an opinion that is fact.

Last year I went to port for the last time when they had the track so good....lol.....that they were running 18 to 19 second time trial laps.  It was worse than watching paint dry.  I will not be back until they bring back the excitement.

Having said all that the minus a two nights at the end of the year they have actually had the track much better.  I was thinking about going to Port for the 50 now I am not so sure.  It may have to wait until next year...wanting to make sure they are doing what they need in order to bring the excitement back to the Port.   They have a great facility and that is where it ends....the racing is subpar in the feature.  I could careless about the heats.  I hate slip and slides for features.

Last night the drivers could still get grip on the high side or the low side in the feature = very exciting racing.

You're the kind of guy who smells his own socks at the end of a day's work, aren't you?

No mention of Lance getting in to Zearfoss on the restart which caused him to wreck?

There was some PA hillbilly wearing a t-shirt documenting Gravel spinning Stevie in 2014 with a hashtag of “never forget”.

I suppose we’ll see the same type of t-shirt for this incident as well.... haha

Lance was in front! Zearfoss just spun out like he did the last five races!! go back and look at it... crashed at selingrove

always wreaking  ..Lance knew he would step on it!

Agreed.  There was very little contact....just enough to give Brock a flat we all have to remember they were not racing for peanuts and Lance should have started the restart and that means he fires first.   Double file restarts are very dangerous.  Dewease was the class of the field and it wasnt even close!  I got a huge laugh when Pitman said he was just as fast as Dewease the last part of the race.

If you have Race Monitor you can plainly see that after Pittman got to second he was turning lap times nearly identical to Dewease the rest of the race.   Just for those who don't I added up the lap times.  Dewease ran the last 10 laps .288 seconds faster than Pittman.  Lance averaged .029 seconds faster per lap.  I'd call that fairly close.

Don’t know if Gio had PA help, but PPM was there and he does have some limited Grove experience. Team surely shot down the “need track experience at the Grove” argument. Only second time at the track for Gio (1st in a 410) as well as the Indy team and they get a win.

The whole "need track time at the Grove" canard has always been a Hoseheads creation that gets trotted out when posters from elsewhere don't like the results. A 16-year-old kid from California did a great job and deservedly won Friday night. I don't have any issue saying that. It is unfortunate that some of the posters on here can't ever stop spinning the results when they don't go along with the narrative they want to use.
